DPW&T Celebrates Women's History Month!
March is Women's History Month, a time for the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) to honor and acknowledge the incredible contributions of women in our agency. Their exceptional work drives our agency forward every day.
According to the American Public Works Association, women represent less than 10 percent of the public works industry, which includes both field and administrative roles. In the nationwide transportation sector, women make up only 35 percent of the workforce. These strikingly low numbers decline further when considering racial equity and diversity. We are committed to ensuring that our agency continues to highlight our female workforce to inspire future generations, showcase our highly talented employees, and give them well-deserved recognition.
The County Needs Your Feedback!
The County is developing an updated Vision Zero Action & Implementation Plan this year, and this short Public Input Survey is the first opportunity for County residents to participate! The survey will inform the development process moving forward, and results will be shared in the finalized Action Plan.
The survey can be reached at the link below and on the DPW&T website. Feedback received from the survey will help create a safer environment for Prince George's County. Feel free to share it with friends and neighbors so everyone has an opportunity to participate. The survey will be posted weekly on our social media platforms @PGCountyDPWT.

Residential Street Sweeping Resumes on April 14th
The Residential Street Sweeping Program is making its return to Prince George's County! After launching with a pilot phase in Summer 2024, a countywide rollout of Phase II is scheduled for Monday, April 14, 2025. This effort reaffirms the County's continued commitment to sustainability while creating a safer, cleaner community for all residents. The Residential Street Sweeping Program aims to support community well-being by removing debris and pollutants from roadways, which not only enhances the appearance of residential streets but also safeguards the environment and improves roadway safety. Phase II will include a scheduled sweep of all County-maintained residential streets with curbs and gutters.

DPW&T Supports the Berkshire Community, One Tree at A Time!
The Office of Storm Drain Maintenance team, along with their Associate Director, Joanna Smith, and Urban Forest and Tree Manager, Wayne Lucas, joined MD-State Senator Nick Charles and the Berkshire Community for a ribbon cutting commemorating the new community signage.
DPW&T has established a strong, lasting relationship with the residents of Berkshire through the Right Tree Right Place (RTRP) program. This initiative focuses on removing trees that may have been planted years ago in unsuitable soil or locations and replacing them with new trees in more appropriate areas that better support their growth and long-term tree life. DPW&T looks forward to continued collaboration with the Berkshire Community and other communities in Prince George's County.
The Office of Storm Drain Maintenance Partners To Bring New Sustainable Options to the County
In a significant step towards sustainability, Prince George’s County will utilize soybeans to support the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) and the Office of Central Services (OCS). The County recently received a grant from the Maryland Soybean Board to promote the use of soy-based products for cleaning solutions, oil products, concrete remediation, and adhesive removal, enhancing the maintenance of service vehicles. This initiative aligns with the County’s ongoing sustainability efforts, including the Prince George’s County Transit Transformation and the Residential Street Sweeping Program. By replacing petroleum-based products with soy-based alternatives, the County aims to improve community health and environmental safety, while also adhering to Green Housekeeping standards.
