ASD Recognizes Women's History Month
Women have always been at the forefront of being strong activists for animals throughout history. One of the most powerful voices was that of Caroline Earle White, who co-founded the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) in 1867, and founded its women's branch, known as the Women’s Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WPSPCA) in 1869. Under her leadership WPSPCA started the first animal shelter in Pennsylvania. Due to the success of her shelter, many women and men throughout the country followed her lead establishing shelters to help fuel animal advocate organizations. There are many other women trailblazers who have played and continue to be activists for animals.
Check out this article from In Defense of Animals, which lists 20 top women animal activists, at 26 Women Making History for Animals, Past and Present.

Shelter is Critical - Please Adopt!
Thank you to our community for assisting us in placing our shelter pets.

Without your IMMEDIATE help, we face the heart-wrenching possibility of finding alternative solutions for healthy, adoptable dogs awaiting their best friend.
Our Animal Services Facility is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, Tue – Fri; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (please arrive one hour prior to closing), and is ready to help you find and adopt. For more information and to see pets ready to be adopted, visit www.princegeorgespets4us.com.

Be Sure to Microchip Your Pets
Keep your furry friends safe by ensuring they are microchipped. Microchips are small transponders implanted under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. They provide an extra form of identification if your pet loses their collar and tag while missing. If your pet ends up at a veterinary clinic or an animal shelter, staff will scan your pet for a microchip and contact the brand the chip is registered under to get your contact information. Pets with microchips are more likely to be returned to their owners!
If your pet does go missing, fill out a LOST report at
If you have found a stay animal, fill out a FOUND report at
Limited Spots Still Available

ASD Loves Adoption Updates!
Who remembers little Sushi, formally known as Willow? She was a 14-year-old Chihuahua that came in as a stray and was adopted by a wonderful family. She is coming up on her one-year Adoptaversary and this is what her foster parents have to say about her: "We have a couple more updates on our little old Sushi! She’s got to be around 15-years-old now, but she still gets SO excited for food. She demands treats on her terms and absolutely adores her heated bed. It will be a year since her adoption in May! She has been challenging but being her retirement home has been 100% worth it.”
We are so happy Sushi has found her forever home! We have many senior animals at our shelter that are waiting to meet their new families. To view our adoptable animals please go to 24petconnect.com/PGEOADOPT.

She was happy and wagging her tail, content to engage with humans and dogs alike.
Samantha (A555280) absolutely adores treats and is always up for a cuddle. She loves attention and will shower you with kisses in return. If you are looking for a sweet, affectionate companion with a lot of heart, Samantha (A555280) might just be your perfect match!

Garrett (A554584) is a 13-year-old gray neutered domestic hair male cat that came into the shelter as a foster and is now ready for his forever home! This is what his foster parents have to say about him: "We've had Garrett (A554584) for two weeks, and when we got him, he was in pretty bad condition. He had a URI and an infection in his blind eye that improved with medicine. Now that he has recovered, he has gained weight and comes out to the main space of our apartment. He is deaf and does meow a reasonable amount, sometimes in the middle of the night, but usually, it is to get back up on the bed. He is social but likes to sleep a lot of the day."

Urgent Need for Kuranda Beds Consider Donating Now!
Due to our high volume of intakes, we are having a shortage of Kuranda beds and we are asking our community to Show Some Love and donate a Kuranda bed. We are also looking for NEW bedding or towels and toys for their merriment (cat toys, Kongs, Nylabones, frisbees).
As part of enrichment programs, we are looking for shelter-approved toys that help keep animals entertained and occupied with mental stimulation while at the shelter. This can help their true personalities shine through despite being stressed. For recommendations on donations, visit our enrichment item wishlist here.
Our kennel still needs donated items such as new bedding, cleaning supplies, and foster items such as scales or kitten milk. Please see the kennel supply wishlist here.
We are not currently accepting used bedding, pillows, stuffed animals, plush toys, or items with stuffing.
In addition, ASD is strongly encouraging donations of Kuranda beds of all sizes for our doggie friends. There are lots of benefits for pets sleeping on Kuranda Beds, including:
- Kuranda beds are the superior choice in shelters and rescues due to their durability and the added protection of a one-year Chew Proof Warranty.
- Shelters prefer Kuranda beds since they are easy to clean and sanitize, minimizing the spread of infectious diseases.
- The elevated sleep surface helps regulate body temperature in warmer and cooler months.
- The orthopedic design alleviates pressure points on joints.
- Quality sleep reduces stress, which keeps animals healthy and feeling good while they await their forever homes.
Check out shelterbeds.org/donate/22654 for more information on how to donate.
