Prince George’s County Winter Storm Transportation and Road Status Update
Full Operations Conclude with 100% of County Roads in Passable Condition

Forestville, MD - The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) has plowed 100% of County roads following Tuesday’s snowstorm, and full operations have concluded as temperatures remain above freezing.

Overall Countywide Condition:

Primary Roadways: 100% passable; 100% bare pavement*
Residential Roadways: 100% passable; 95% bare pavement*

DPW&T began brining County roads two days before Tuesday’s storm, followed by the pretreatment of challenging areas, including cold spots, bridges, and steep hills, a process that began several hours ahead of the snowfall to direct additional resources to residential streets.

Plowing of primary, secondary, and residential routes began during the storm and continued throughout the day on Wednesday. Crews continued to plow as needed and treat icy areas Wednesday night into Thursday.

When a snow emergency is declared, DPW&T is responsible for providing passable conditions on more than 2,000 miles of County-maintained roads. Routes are prioritized for service by the following categories: primary, secondary, and residential. Primary and secondary roads are serviced first to ensure public safety and emergency vehicles are able to travel safely. Once these routes are cleared, crews focus on residential streets to ensure neighborhood access. The Maryland State Highway Administration is responsible for clearing State roads, which are identified by numbers (e.g., MD-210, MD-202, US-1).

TheBus resumed its regular schedule today, Thursday, February 13. For real-time information, route tracking, and service alerts, residents should call (301) 324-2877. Call-A-Bus will also resume regular service. To reschedule a travel reservation canceled due to the storm, please call (301) 499-8603.

County residents and business owners are required by law to clear snow and ice from any sidewalk abutting their properties within 48 hours after snow has fallen or ice has formed as a result of inclement weather or runoff from abutting services, as outlined in the County’s Abutter Ordinance.

Residents may contact PGC 311 online or by phone to submit a snow-related service request.
