DPIE reminds residents and businesses that owners, tenants and managers of residential and commercial properties with paved sidewalks adjacent to their properties are responsible for ensuring that sidewalks are cleared of snow and ice.
Ensuring that public sidewalks are cleared of snow and ice is an important safety and accessibility consideration for pedestrians: young children, students who walk to school, senior citizens and people with ambulatory disabilities. Prince George’s County Code Section 23-150 mandates that responsible parties remove accumulated snow and ice from abutting sidewalks within 48 hours after snow has fallen or ice has accumulated to a depth of two or more inches.

The Permanent Rent Stabilization and Protection Act (PRSA) of 2024 has been enacted to protect renters from excessive rent increases while ensuring landlords can maintain their properties.
This law sets clear limits on how much rent can increase annually for many rental units, with special provisions for senior housing and exemptions for specific properties.
DPIE enforces the PRSA and is authorized to impose fines for violations ranging from $1,000 for the first violation of the law up to $5,000 for subsequent violations.
If you believe that you are overcharged, you should first contact your landlord to discuss the increase in your rent. If it is not resolved, then contact PGC311 to report your complaint. Read more about the County Rent Stabilization Act here.
Take the following steps to keep your property clean and code compliant during the cold weather season.
- Check the seals around windows and doors to ensure heat isn't escaping
- Check caulking around sinks and tubs
- Clean clothes dryer lint trap and vent duct

I just want to give you feedback on two of your inspectors I have had to deal with recently – Ron Proctor and DeAndre Thompson. I am happy to report I had a good experience with both... However, I want to let you know that DeAndre stepped into a situation and handled very professionally and respectfully to everyone’s satisfaction. DeAndre is a good inspector and good ambassador for your department.
