Prince George's Proud: An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks
Dear Prince Georgians:
As the 2024 Presidential General Election approaches, we want to share important information about voting. The general election takes place on Tuesday, November 5, with early voting starting today, Thursday, October 24, through Thursday, October 31.
Residents can take advantage of early voting at any early voting center in the County from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including Saturday and Sunday. If you are voting in-person on Election Day, polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. All voters in line by 8:00 PM will be able to vote. Remember that you must vote at your assigned polling location on Election Day. To find an early voting center near you or locate your assigned polling place, visit the Board of Elections website here or contact their office at 301-341-7300.
Residents can vote in-person, but we also encourage voting by mail. To receive your ballot by mail or fax, apply by Tuesday, October 29. For an electronic ballot, apply by Friday, November 1. If you’re voting by mail, you can drop off your completed ballot at any of the 39 safe and convenient drop boxes located throughout the County until 8:00 PM on Election Day. Please be sure to sign the oath on the return envelope before submitting your ballot. You can find the drop box nearest you by viewing the list of locations here.
If you are eligible to vote, but not yet registered, you can register on Election Day if you qualify for Same Day Registration. To register, present a MVA-issued driver’s license or identification card. You can check your voter registration status by visiting the Board of Elections website.

“FALL into Compliance” with Property Maintenance Requirements to be a Good Neighbor
 As we gear up for cold weather, the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE) wants homeowners, business owners, and property managers to “FALL into Compliance” to ensure their exterior spaces are compliant with County Code. This annual fall initiative encourages property owners and managers to examine their properties and address maintenance code violations as they prepare their yards and homes for cold weather.
Property maintenance standards help protect our environment and keep our County beautiful. As a reminder, residents can always report property maintenance violations to PGC311 by calling 3-1-1 (301-883-7374 outside the County) or on the PGC311 website here. Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Collection
 The Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill's Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronics Recycling (E-waste) acceptance sites and other associated lots remain closed until further notice due to construction. In the meantime, residents can properly dispose of HHW/E-waste items at these upcoming mobile events:

Take Home a Boo in October
 The Department of the Environment is excited to announce that during the month of October, the Animal Services Division (ASD) is participating in the "Take Home a Boo" adoption promotion event. All cat and dog adoptions are reduced to $31. Hurry in and find a forever pet. For more information about adoptions, visit the ASD website here.
Schedule Curbside Pickup for Scrap Metal and Old Electronics
 Residents who receive County trash and recycling collection services can schedule curbside electronics recycling and scrap metal collection by appointment only for every third Monday of the month. Residents can schedule curbside collection appointments through PGC311 by calling 3-1-1 (301-883-7374 outside the County) or on the PGC311 website here. It’s easy and green!
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, October 26! It is an important opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired medications. Join the Health Department from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Pilgrimage Christian Church in Suitland to drop off unused prescription drugs, e-cigarettes, or other electronic smoking devices at this drive-through event. You can also find a collection site near you to safely dispose of unwanted medications. Learn more information on the Health Department’s website.
Join the Healthy Revolution Team in the Fight to End Alzheimer's
 Alzheimer's doesn’t wait— and neither are we. This year, the Health Department’s Healthy Revolution Team is proud to participate again in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support, and research.
The walk takes place this Saturday, October 26, at National Harbor, Capital Canopy in Oxon Hill. Check-in begins at 8:30 AM. Join the Healthy Revolution Team in this important cause. You can participate in the walk or donate to support the fight against Alzheimer's. Every dollar raised helps the Alzheimer's Association® provide care and support to those affected by this devastating disease and contributes to advancing critical research.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month
 November is National Diabetes Month, a time for communities across the country to raise awareness about diabetes. The Health Department is now registering participants for its free Living Well Diabetes Self-Management program. This program helps adults with prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes manage their condition and reduce the risk of complications. Classes will meet online with trained leaders on Monday evenings for six consecutive weeks starting Monday, November 4, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

Latino Affairs Team Participates in the Historic Hispanic Heritage Celebration at the Maryland State House with Governor Wes Moore
 On Monday, October 14, a our Latino Affairs Team joined Governor Wes Moore and a diverse gathering of Latino leaders, friends, and the Governor’s Hispanic Affairs Commission at the Maryland State House to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The event was imbued with pride and joy as attendees celebrated their shared heritage. Prince George’s County’s Latino Affairs Team's participation was instrumental in showcasing the vibrant contributions of the Latino communities throughout the County to the state.
Recognizing Our Growing Green with Pride Community Champions
   The Office of Community Relations and the Department of Public Works and Transportation recently teamed up to honor devoted community members who significantly contribute to the County’s biannual beautification initiative, Growing Green with Pride. These outstanding individuals, recognized as Growing Green with Pride Community Champions, received certificates and gift baskets from both agencies in appreciation of their unwavering dedication.
Ms. Maren Mayhew Ms. Mayhew has been a pillar of the Beltsville community since the 1950s. As the President of the 101-year-old Women's Community Club of Beltsville, she has led initiatives to maintain the community's cleanliness through the Adopt-a-Road program and the more recent Adopt-a-Stream program. The Club takes great pride in planting bulbs in various locations throughout Beltsville, enhancing the community's natural beauty.
Ms. Ernell Stewart Mr. Stewart has been a Hyattsville resident since the 1980s, has served as the treasurer of the 8th Precinct Civic Association for over 15 years. She is particularly proud of her efforts to educate neighbors about the County Code and ensure the community remains well-kept. A notable example of her dedication is her door-to-door campaign, informing residents about the new Street Sweeping program.
Ms. Shelly Markham Ms. Markham is an active member of the Berkshire Boulevard Civic Association in Capital Heights, has worked tirelessly to eliminate abandoned vehicles and organize community walks with various agency representatives to address quality-of-life concerns. Her relentless efforts have significantly improved the community's environment.
These unsung heroes are just a few of the many passionate community members whose commitment to their neighborhoods exemplifies what it means to be Prince George's Proud. Their contributions are a testament to the power of community spirit and the positive impact of dedicated residents.
Planning Department Wins Two 2024 Maryland Planning Awards
 The Prince George’s County Planning Department won two prestigious Maryland Planning Awards from the American Planning Association Maryland Chapter (APA MD) and the Maryland Planning Commissioners Association (MPCA) for outstanding work on projects and programs. With more than 55 nominations across the state in multiple awards categories, the award review committee comprised of planning professionals selected the Prince George’s County Neighborhood Planning Academy for the Community Engagement/ Education Award and the Woodland and Wildlife Conservation Ordinance Amendment for the Zoning/Regulation/Process Reform Award. Historic Hispanic Heritage Month Event Leaves Lasting Legacy: “CULTURA: An Immersive Experience”
 The successful realization of “CULTURA: An Immersive Experience” in Prince George's County was a monumental achievement! This Inaugural Hispanic Heritage Month closing event showcased the vibrant spirit, rich traditions, and deep-rooted pride of our Latino communities in Prince George’s County. OCR Hosts Agency Response Tours
 The Office of Community Relations (OCR) hosted a series of Agency Response Tours, including two events specifically for HOA members. The events, held in the northern, central, and southern areas of the County, allowed residents the opportunity to communicate directly with the County Government agencies that serve them including OCR’s Commission on Common Ownership Communities (CCOC), the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE), the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), the Department of the Environment (DOE), the Revenue Authority (RVA), and Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). Each agency provided information to the residents and participated in a Q&A session. OCR continues to serve as a bridge between the County Government and its people, connecting residents with government resources, agencies, and personnel.
