Prince George's Proud:
An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks

Dear Prince Georgians:

Last week, we attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Robert Frost K-8 school in New Carrollton, marking the first under Phase 2 of our innovative Alternative Construction Finance (ACF) program. The ACF program is a public-private partnership that allows us to build new, state-of-the-art schools quickly and at a cost savings for the County. Last year, we opened 6 new schools under Phase 1 on the program and Phase 2 will bring an additional 8 new schools.

Education is one of our most essential investments, but our County has long dealt with the fact that our schools are some of the oldest in the state, which is why we went to Annapolis in 2019 to push for this program that will help us to address our $8.5 billion school construction backlog. We recognized that our students deserve to have access high quality learning environments that offer them the resources they need to reach their full potential.

I am proud of the work we have done over the last several years to get where we are today, and I can promise you that we are not stopping or slowing down, and we will deliver on our promise to continue building new schools, because our children deserve nothing less. When this new, state-of-the-art building is complete, it will be a symbol of what we have promised to provide for our young people and will stand as a true commitment to our children, a boost to our local economy, and an investment in our County.

I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight September as National Preparedness Month. Our Office of Homeland Security works tirelessly to educate and inform our residents about how to stay safe and be prepared for emergencies and disasters through their “Proud to be Prepared” campaign. We encourage residents to check out the OHS website here and follow them on X (@PGCountyOEM) or Instagram (@pgcountyoem) for daily preparedness tips and activities and for other ways to get involved.

Yours in Service,

Angela Alsobrooks
