Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Dear Prince Georgians:
This weekend, we will proudly join the nation to begin celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Every year from September 15 to October 15, we recognize and honor the heritage of our Hispanic/Latino community through music, dance, and the arts. Here in our great County, 21% of Prince Georgians are of Hispanic or Latino descent, and we are always extremely proud to celebrate their contributions to our nation and our communities.
This year, the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM) has named the theme for Hispanic Heritage Month as “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.” According to the NCHEPM, this theme encapsulates the spirit of innovation, resilience, and unity that define the Hispanic experience.
Throughout my administration, we have worked tirelessly to engage with our Hispanic/Latino community. We recognize the significant contributions that they make to our County’s economy, culture, and society, and remain committed to engaging with this community. Our Latino Affairs Liaison, Samantha Howard, continues her efforts to further connect with our Hispanic/Latino residents and our Latino Advisory Board continues to stay involved in current issues within this community. We are making tremendous strides and look forward to the work we will continue to do to enhance the lives of our Hispanic/Latino community.
Throughout this entire month, there are various celebrations and events in the County to commemorate the rich culture and heritage of our Hispanic/Latino community. You will find more information about events happening throughout the County below, and we encourage you to bring your family and friends and join us in celebrating the history and diversity of our Hispanic/Latino community.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks Prince George’s County Executive
