Prince George's Proud:
An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks

Dear Prince Georgians:

Yesterday, we announced the launch of a countywide Residential Street Sweeping Program (RSSP). From the very beginning of my administration, we have kept our eye on the issues and priorities that matter most to Prince Georgians. One key priority is beautification, reducing litter and improving the health of our environment, and this new program helps us make major progress on a key problem residents care about - litter.

Throughout my administration, we have invested millions of dollars into programs and initiatives that clean up Prince George’s County. In addition to planting thousands of trees, cleaning up thousands of tons of litter, and partnering with civic-minded Prince Georgians across the County, we have been working hard to create this street sweeping program, which will help protect our air quality, waterways, and even our homes.

Street sweeping actively removes toxic pollutants from the environment, minimizing the amount of pollutants that threaten our water. Street sweeping also helps us stop tracking roadside pollution from our shoes into our homes. This program promises to deliver cleaner streets, cleaner homes, cleaner air, rivers, and streams across our County and our region.

The first phase of RSSP will launch on Tuesday, September 3. In Phase 1, we are targeting zones along the western side of the County. In Phase 2, which is set to being next Spring, we will continue to roll out our street sweeping program countywide. Residents are encouraged to visit our Department of Public Works and Transportation’s Street Sweeping website here to learn more about the program.

I would also like to take this opportunity to officially welcome our students back into the classroom for the 2024-2025 school year. As we embark on a new school year, I am wishing all our students and educators a successful academic year. We know that our school system has worked extremely hard to prepare for this school year and we are confident that our children are receiving a quality education that prepares them for the future.

Yours in Service,

Angela Alsobrooks
Prince George's County Executive
