Extreme Heat

Dear Prince Georgians:

As you may know, we are expecting extreme heat in our region that will impact our area throughout the week and into the weekend. As we prepare for excessive heat, we want to take this opportunity to remind Prince Georgians to be sure you are taking the necessary precautions to stay safe and avoid heat-related illnesses.

We are encouraging residents to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities as much as possible. It is also important to check on your family members, friends, and neighbors, especially senior citizens, families with young children, people with special needs, or individuals living alone during periods of extreme heat. Residents are also encouraged to take advantage of the designated cooling centers in the County if your home loses power. The list of cooling centers can be found here.

We also want to take this time to remind Prince Georgians that you should only contact 9-1-1 to report health or public safety emergencies regarding excessive heat that require the dispatch of Police, Fire/EMS, or the Sheriff. If you need additional information on cooling centers or other heat-related issues, you can contact PGC311. Residents are also encouraged to register for Alert Prince George’s to receive emergency information, including severe weather alerts, from the Prince George’s County Office of Homeland Security/Office of Emergency Management.

Yours in service,

Angela Alsobrooks
Prince George’s County Executive
