The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is the agency that maintains multiple systems throughout our County in order to keep daily life functioning. As many might know, DPW&T directly impacts the way Prince George's County operates. Our agency maintains more than 2,000 miles of County roadways, rectifies sidewalk hazards, removes vegetation and overgrown trees from signage, manages storm drain systems, handles snow operations during the winter season, and so much more! Every year in May, public works professionals are honored and recognized nationwide during "National Public Works Week," a tradition introduced by the American Public Works Association dating back to 1960. DPW&T ensured our dedicated employees were shown appreciation and gratitude for their hard work and commitment to Prince George's County!

DPW&T Partners with the Department of Family Services to Recognize Older Americans Month

The Senior Information Fair is one of DFS’ activities planned in recognition of Older Americans Month (OAM). The Office of Transportation within the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) participated in WMATA’s Better Bus Network Redesign launch at Hyattsville Crossing, Branch Ave and Largo Metro Stations. This is the first of six upcoming pop-up events that DPW&T will participate in around the County. The Better Bus Network is an initiative to rethink, redesign, and revitalize bus service to better serve the needs of customers in the region. On May 29, 2024, DPW&T collaborated with County consulting partners, WSP and Assedo to host a listening session on our Transit Vision Plan. During the interactive meeting, participants engaged in robust dialogue, sharing ways we might improve transit in the County. Additionally, a presentation was shared on our aspirational plan. In June, DPW&T staff will host pop-up events at New Carrollton, Southern Ave, and Capitol Heights Metro Stations to continue our outreach efforts of providing residents, riders, and community members with the latest communications on Transit. We will be having an in-person event at Creative Suitland alongside WMATA for residents to share concerns.
