Prince George’s County Hosts Spring 2024 ‘Growing Green with Pride’ Litter Cleanup Event

LARGO, MD – Prince George’s County will hold its bi-annual Spring 2024 ‘Growing Green with Pride’ cleanup event on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event supports the County Executive Angela Alsobrooks’ Beautification Proud Priority and will focus on tackling litter accumulation on County streets, neighborhoods, parking lots, and more in effort to preserve the beauty and luster of our community. This event will take place rain or shine.

Litter build-up is an ongoing issue within Prince George’s County that the County Executive is working diligently to rectify, and Growing Green with Pride is a huge opportunity to tackle this problem together as a community. According to the Keep America Beautiful Non-Profit Organization, there is nearly 50 billion pieces of litter along U.S. highways and waterways.

“This event brings together communities, residents, schools, and businesses to partner with Prince George’s County Government, the Neighborhood Design Center, Prince George’s County Public Schools, Keep Prince George’s County Beautiful, and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, showing that we all have a part to play in keeping Prince George’s County clean and beautiful,” says County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.

For registered participants, the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) will provide plastic gloves, trash bags, safety vests, and a maximum of 6 bags of mulch and litter grabbers for the event. The registration for ‘Growing Green with Pride’ closes Friday, April 19, 2024.

“We are Prince George’s Proud to be back again this year to host the County’s bi-annual litter cleanup. Historically, Growing Green with Pride volunteers have consisted of residents, schools, local businesses, community organizations, and other members of our community,” said DPW&T’s Director, Michael Johnson. “We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces at this year’s event!”

Participating in ‘Growing Green with Pride’ also grants students the opportunity to receive community service credits. Verification forms for community service are available at the schools. Register here to join this countywide event!
