PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY RUNS TWO FULL SNOW OPERATIONS, TWICE IN ONE WEEK DUE TO BACK-TO-BACK SNOWSTORMS

LARGO, MD – Prince George’s County’s Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) conducted two Full Snow and Ice Operations to address the Monday, January 15, 2024 and Thursday, January 18, 2024 snow events. Crews tackled the storms working in three 12-hour shifts, consisting of more than 580 County employees and contractors. On Sunday, January 14, 2024, contractors conducted a pretreatment salt brining operation of county roadways to prepare for the week-long snow. This is the first major snow event for Prince George’s County since January 2022.

As part of DPW&T’s action plan to combat the winter storm, 350 trucks mobilized to treat and plow 2,000 miles of icy and snow-covered roadways including major and residential roadways throughout the County’s five snow districts. On Saturday, January 20, 2024, DPW&T executed a Snowflake Operation that concluded later that evening, marking the third snow operation for the week.

In order to assist with operational efficiency and personal safety during storms, residents are encouraged to avoid roadways during inclement weather. If you must travel, reduce your driving speed, keep wipers and lights on, check windshield wiper fluids, and maintain a safe traveling distance if behind snowplow vehicles. Residents are reminded to wait 48-hours after the snow stops before contacting PGC311.
