Prince George's Proud: An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks
Dear Prince Georgians:
During this time of year, we are working to develop our County’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins on Monday, July 1, 2024. Throughout our administration, our goal every year has been to develop a budget that allows us to further our efforts to improve the overall quality of life here in our great County. We have made tremendous strides in moving our County forward in so many ways and look forward to continuing to do our part as a County Government to address the needs of all Prince Georgians.
As we work to develop the FY 2025 proposed budget, we recognize the importance of hearing from our residents and providing an opportunity for you to provide feedback during this process. On Monday, January 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, we will be hosting our virtual FY 2025 Budget Listening Session. This listening session will give our residents an opportunity to learn more about our initial plans for the upcoming budget as well as provide input on the FY 2025 proposed budget.
Residents can provide their input by testifying virtually during the listening session or submitting written comments. Those interested in testifying must register on the Office of Management and Budget website here by 5:00 PM on Friday, January 26. Written comments can be submitted via email to OMB@co.pg.md.us by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31, and will be accepted in lieu of, or in addition to, oral comments. Testimony will be limited to 3 minutes per presenter and one speaker per organization. Residents who do not wish to speak but still want to view the listening session can do so here.
We encourage all Prince Georgians to join us for this important discussion and look forward to hearing your feedback and ideas as we develop the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks Prince George's County Executive
Proud to be Around Prince George's
Prince George’s Proud Ceremonial Recognition
On Monday, January 8, County Executive Alsobrooks was Prince George’s Proud to honor Nethra Purushothaman, along with her fellow Girl Scouts, Sienna McIntyre, Miraya Bhonde, and Rishima Singh for their efforts to preserve 537 acres of the Marlton Forest in Upper Marlboro. These young advocates recognized the importance of protecting our forests and took extraordinary steps to do something about it. When they saw that Marlton Forest was at risk, they worked tirelessly to collect signatures, build coalitions, and press for change. Each of them knew, in their hearts, that the world would be a better place if the forest stayed standing, and they shared that vision with key decision makers, building support within the community. We want to encourage them to stay involved, and to keep leading our community to a green future.
The Residences at Victory Promenade Community Meeting
County Executive Alsobrooks had a wonderful time with the residents of The Residences at Victory Promenade in Hyattsville at a community meeting on Monday, January 8. We had very engaging discussion about our work along the Blue Line Corridor, the new Health and Human Services Building, our efforts to fight crime in our communities, and other important issues.
Legislative Opening Session Kick-Off
On Wednesday, January 10, County Executive Alsobrooks kicked off this year’s legislative session in Annapolis with a reception for our Prince George’s State Delegation. Our work, together, benefits all Prince Georgians and Marylanders, and we are excited to work with our wonderful team of legislators to deliver for our residents during this legislative session. This year, we are proud to continue to advocate for healthcare access, along with many other pressing issues facing residents. Learn more about County Executive Alsobrooks’ legislative priorities here.
Alsobrooks Youth Leadership Institute’s MLK Day of Service
The members of the Alsobrooks Youth Leadership Institute (AYLI) were Prince George’s Proud to “make it a day on, not a day off,” as they served the community on Monday, January 15 in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. To honor Dr. King’s legacy and call to action for all to serve, the AYLI members served by packing and distributing groceries, sorting coats, gloves, hats, socks and undergarments, and freshening up and reorganizing the library at Panorama Elementary School in Hillcrest Heights. We are so thankful for our sponsors as well as our Commission on Fathers, Men and Boys, who happened to be represented by a very special guest, County Executive Alsobrooks’ dad, Mr. James Alsobrooks. Because of their overwhelming support, the AYLI served more than 300 students and their families.

Failing to clear snow and ice may result in the levying of fines. Learn more information on the DPIE website here.
Cold Weather and Your Pet
It’s cold out there, Prince Georgians! Exposure to extreme winter weather can harm our pets if we leave or take them outside for a prolonged period. Prince George's County law requires that "all domestic animals, except livestock, are prohibited from being kept outdoors when the effective outdoor wind chill index is 32 degrees Fahrenheit." For their safety, ensure your four-legged family members are kept warm and their paws are clear, and report animal cruelty incidents to 301-780-7200.
Learn more tips to care for our animals during winter and read County laws on the Department of the Environment’s Animal Services Division website here.

Partnerships Critical to Combating Human Trafficking
