Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dear Prince Georgians:
Today, we join the nation in honoring the astounding life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As one of the most powerful civil rights icons and leaders in our nation’s history, Dr. King undeniably made significant contributions to society. We are proud to take this opportunity each year to recognize and celebrate his achievements in the fight for equality justice for all people.
Dr. King’s legacy is one that represents love, hope, courage, kindness, service to others, and of course, justice and equality for all. He once said, “Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.” Dr. King’s words are a testament to what became his life’s work, in his fight to ensure that we are all treated fairly, and his call for all people to do their part in creating a more fair and just society.
As we celebrate his legacy, we want to encourage all Prince Georgians to join together in supporting one another and embrace the work we do in our communities. Let us all use this day of service to do something positive and make a difference in the lives of others so that we can continue to build upon Dr. King’s legacy.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks Prince George’s County Executive
