DPW&T Says Farewell to Ms. Paulette Jones After 10 Years of Service!
After a decade of dedicated service as the Chief of Communications for the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Ms. Paulette Jones is retiring!
Paulette, with an extensive background in government and public relations, has left an indelible mark on the Prince George's County community. Her ability to objectively story-tell, captivate her audience, and connect with the community is truly unmatched!
Prior to her role at DPW&T, Paulette contributed significantly to various esteemed organizations, including the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), the State Highway Administration (SHA), and she even worked alongside the late Congressman Elijah Cummings. Her relentless commitment to public service has been a driving force throughout her remarkable journey.
During her time at DPW&T, Paulette spearheaded numerous initiatives that showcased her unwavering dedication to the betterment of the community. From leading Snow and Ice Removal operations to organizing the "Stuff the Bus" School Supply Drive, aimed at ensuring students have the necessary resources for a successful academic year, her impact has been truly commendable.
Paulette's major accomplishments included tending to constituent concerns through PGC 311, leading mowing-and-litter blitzes, and prioritizing the safety of bikers and pedestrians in the county. Paulette Jones' legacy is one of tireless service, leadership, and a genuine commitment to enhancing the lives of Prince Georgians. Her work has made such a significant impact on the community that County Executive, Angela Alsobrooks proclaimed December 1st as the official Paulette Jones Day in Prince George's County!
As she embarks on a well-deserved retirement, Paulette Jones will be greatly missed by colleagues, Community Partners', and the residents she has served so diligently. The Department of Public Works and Transportation extends gratitude and best wishes to Paulette Jones, thanking her for a decade of honorable service, and eagerly anticipating the positive impact she will undoubtedly continue to make in all her future endeavors.

DPW&T Hosted Final Community Partners' Meeting
of the Year
DPW&T hosted the Winter Community Partners' Meeting on December 7, 2023 from 9am to 11am. During this virtual meeting, more than 120+ Community Partners' attended the meeting to learn more information about snow preparation for the upcoming winter. Citizens were able to connect directly with agency leadership and engage in discussions. Additionally, attendees learned about updates and expectations for the 2024 year from our sister agencies; the Department of the Environment (DoE) and the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE). DPW&T Spends Nearly $1 Million on Latest Snow Equipment and Technology
As an anticipated heavy winter season is underway, DPW&T's Equipment Maintenance Division of the Office of Highway Maintenance has acquired ten (10) new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup trucks as part of the County’s equipment replacement program. Each truck includes the Swenson salt spreaders, Meyers snowplows, and specialty light packages. These trucks will be utilized daily to support the Office of Highway Maintenance and the Office of Storm Drain Maintenance crews in maintaining the County’s infrastructure, along with having an integral role in the department’s Snow and Ice Control operations.
DPW&T's Major 2023 Transit Changes Were a Success
DPW&T's Office of Transportation launched new initiatives in 2023 that revitalized the transit experience for riders, employees, and Prince George's County. These changes impacted our ability to better serve the community and to improve ridership for citizens. The Proud Priorities Transit Transformation (PGC TT) was the largest initiative of the year, and its launch was supported by four government officials; County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Maryland Senator Chris Van Holland, Maryland Secretary of Environment Serena Mcllwain, and Maryland Secretary of Transportation Paul Wiedefeld. Additionally, the launch was supported by six stakeholder groups; the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), PG County Council, Baltimore County Transit, Metropolitan Washington Council of Government (MWCOG), and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC).
In effort to spread awareness about the new initiatives with the Prince George's County transit systems, the Office of Transportation hosted 6 pop-up events and attended 51 community events with a total of 5,139 participants. Additionally, DPW&T's digital presence increased online with 1,500 views on Facebook and Twitter, 150 interactions, and received 75 customer feedback surveys.
