Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Dear Prince Georgians:
Today marks the official start of Hispanic Heritage Month! Every year from September 15 to October 15, communities across the country celebrate and honor the heritage of our Hispanic/Latino community through music, dance, and the arts. More than 20% of our County’s population is of Hispanic or Latino descent, and we are so proud to have the opportunity to celebrate all they bring to our community.
The National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM) has named this year’s theme for Hispanic Heritage Month as “Todos Somos, Somos Uno: We Are All, We Are One.” This year's theme reinforces the diversity inherent within the Hispanic/Latino population, as well as the power that comes from being a united community.
We recognize the significant contributions that our Hispanic/Latino residents make to our County’s economy, culture, and society, and remain committed to engaging with this community. We recently announced our new Latino Affairs Liaison, Samantha Howard, who will support our continued efforts to further connect with our Hispanic/Latino residents. Our Latino Advisory Board, which was created in 2019, continues its efforts to stay involved in current issues within the Latino community. We are working tirelessly to support all those who call our County home and look forward to the great work we will continue to do to enhance the lives of our Hispanic/Latino community.
Throughout this entire month, there will be various celebrations and events in the County to commemorate the rich culture and heritage of our Hispanic/Latino community. You will find more information about events happening throughout the County below, and we encourage you to bring your family and friends and join us in celebrating the history and diversity of our Hispanic/Latino community.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks Prince George’s County Executive
