Eligible animal redemptions for lost or found pets are approved. Owners must:

• Identify their lost animal in the facility via www.24petconnect.com website and click on lost and found or call customer service at 301-780-7200 option 1 to claim ownership.
• Redemptions will be during normal business hours, Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 

If a resident finds a stray animal and can safely check for an ID tag or rabies tag - please do so and try to take them home. The Animal Services Division (ASD) encourages you to take the stray animal to any local veterinarian's office to scan for a microchip. If the animal has a microchip and information populates on the website, attempt to contact the owner directly to avoid exposure to the shelter.

PGSPCA Low Cost Shot Clinic
Sunday, October 1, 2023

                            No Appointment Needed                 

The Prince George’s County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PGSPCA) is holding walk-in, low-cost vaccination clinics for cats and dogs, on the first Sunday of the month, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 8210 D’Arcy Road in Forestville, Maryland. No appointment is needed. The gates open at 11 a.m., and anyone in line by 1 p.m. will be served.  All dogs MUST be leashed or in a carrier. All cats MUST be in a carrier. 

Cash or credit card only; no checks. Without documentation of a prior rabies vaccine, your pet's rabies vaccine will expire in one year.

Looking For a Pet? Think Small!

Many people think that animal shelters just have cats and dogs. As a reminder,  if they have fins, fur, feathers, or scales they are available for fostering or adoption at the Prince George's ASFAC.

We can imagine these may be some of the questions you have: 

• Did you say fins?  Yes, occasionally we have fish. 
• Are there other animals with fur besides a cat or dog?  Ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, and guinea pigs are some small animals that are available for adoption. 
• What could I adopt with feathers?  We get a variety of birds, from the tiniest finches to parakeets, doves, and cockatiels. 
• How about the animals with scales?  Besides fish, we have snakes, lizards, bearded dragons, and iguanas!                           

Adoption fees vary depending on the type of animal you wish to adopt. Most animals will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. However, if you adopt two gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, or anything that does not get spayed or neutered, then the animals must be either all boys or all girls, so they do not breed and have babies. Many of these animals arrive at our facility because their owner did not have realistic expectations on how to care for them. Some pets, particularly reptiles, have very specific needs. 

If you are interested in adopting any animal, please read up on their care and life span before getting one. Speak with someone who has a similar pet, and with a veterinarian who treats the type of animal you are interested in adopting. Bambi the Bunny is Ready for Adoption

Bambi (A536466) is the perfect rabbit for any families first time getting a rabbit. He is a three-year-old male rabbit who has been socialized. He is okay being held and takes treats gently. He loves to greet anyone who comes to his cage and hopes they will pet his soft fur.

Let's Find Bing Bong a "Furever" Home

Meet Bing Bong (A536038), a two-year-old neutered male plot hound mix. Bing Bong is currently in foster and has been there since early summer. Bing Bong's foster reports he is a wonderful dog and loves to go for car rides and roll around in the grass! At night he is more than happy to lay in his bed but if you invite him to cuddle, a fur ball will be right by your side before you know it! 

Our foster program is vital to our shelter especially during tough situations like our current canine influenza outbreak, as it allows us to house shelter animal offsite and allows us to get a deeper understanding of their personalities while in a home setting.

Prince George's County Animal Services Division Partners with Pets for Patriots

Service members with at least 190 days in the service are welcome to utilize this partnership. If eligible, you could qualify for a free adoption fee if looking for one of the following: a dog or cat that is at least two (2) years of age; a dog or cat with special needs; a dog or cat that is homeless for six months; or a dog that is 40 pounds or more at the time of adoption. Donations of KMR Milk and Other Pet Supplies Still Needed!

Kitten Season is in full bloom at our shelter. We are in desperate need of KMR milk and bottles for underage kittens. Sizes and amounts are included in our wishlist.

We also are running low on enrichment items, such as toys and treats, critter supplies, supplies for our kennels, and leashes for volunteers and staff.

For an animal-related emergency, stray animal, animal bite, lost or found pet, carcass removal, deceased pet disposal, owner surrender appointments, and euthanasia appointments, please call our main line at 301-780-7200 and press "1" for customer service.  Photos of found animals that are here in our facility can be viewed online at the www.24petconnect.com website.

If you find your lost pet on our website, please contact our customer service department for assistance with redeeming your pet. Be sure to check with public postings and back with the shelter periodically. 

For nuisance wildlife, call the MD Department of Natural Resources hotline at 877-463-6497.
