It is that time again! The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) has officially kicked off the annual "Stuff TheBus" Back to School Supply Drive. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of this event each year and ask that you come out and donate supplies to help the students of Prince George's County start their year off successfully. We will be collecting supplies Monday through Friday, 10 am - 2pm until August 18, 2023.

Deputy Director Oluseyi Olugbenle, Associate Director Semia Hackett and the Chief of Transit Planning & Innovation, Efon Epanty attended the 52nd National COMTO Meeting and Training Conference on July 8 - 11, 2023. The theme this year is Transportation: The Great Connector. The conference brought together industry leaders and practitioners from around the country to provide insights into transportation projects, policies, and strategies at work to explore the latest innovations fueling the future of the transportation industry. While at the conference our leadership team was able to visit the Sunline Transit Agency and tour how they achieved a hydrogen fuel cell fleet with an average temperature of 120 degrees.
Street Smart “Lives Shatter on Impact” Testimonial Wall at the Largo Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)
On July 18-19, Vision Zero Prince George's partnered with the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) to host the Street Smart "Lives Shatter on Impact" Testimonial Wall exhibit at the Largo MVA. As you know, the exhibit tells stories of traffic victims from our region and provides safety tips for all road users and pedestrians. Vision Zero Prince George’s provided display pop-up banners alongside the exhibit about the Vision Zero strategy. Visitors had the opportunity to view the powerful stories on the display and learn about Vision Zero Prince George's Vision Zero Safety Pledge.

Pothole Repairs
Our Office of Highway Maintenance staff work to address pothole repairs on all County-maintained roadways. Roads that are identified by a route number (example MD Route 214, MD Route 450, MD Route 210, U.S. 1 to name a few) are the responsibility of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA). You can Call 301-952-0555 to report a pothole to SHA.
The estimated service resolution for this service can take up to 5 business days. To report a pothole on County-maintained Road, please call 311 (3-1-1) or 301-883-4748 or report it directly online at PGC311.com.
Riverdale Park Placemaking Event
The DPW&T-RideSmart team joined by our Vision Zero team had a great time tabling at the Placemaking event hosted by M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County in Riverdale Park on July 15, 2023. The Riverdale Park community is full of bikers, bus commuters and carpoolers. We're glad we were able to provide them with some helpful tips on how they can incentivize their environmentally friendly commute!

The Capital Market 3rd Annual Bike & Roll Safety Event
On Sunday, July 9, 2023, DPW&T’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program team, Ride Smart team and Transit team along with staff from the Maryland Highway Safety Office of MDOT/MVA participated in The Capital Market at Creative Suitland’s 3rd Annual Bike and Roll Safety Day. There were over 60 participants at the free family-friendly event. Vendors sold healthy juices, fruits, vegetables, and a variety of artisan products. The Bike and Pedestrian Program has participated in the Bike and Roll Safety Day for the last 2 years. This year, Ride Smart and Transit team members were also on-site to inform and greet attendees. Our team provided bicycle helmets, lights, bicycle, pedestrian, and traffic safety tips, along with information on Capital Bikeshare, Ride Smart, TheBus, and other transportation options. Event attendees of all ages walked up to the DPW&T team to learn more about our environmentally friendly transportation options.

Sandbag Distribution
The Office of Storm Drain Maintenance held their final Sandbag Distribution on July 15, 2023. Our hardworking team engaged with over 60 residents in the unincorporated areas. We encourage those who have picked up their Sandbags to utilize their bags accordingly. Some uses for the Sandbags may include:
- Directing water away from your property but not onto neighboring property.
- Dispose of used sandbags in your garden or other projects.
- Store unused sandbags in a cool, dry place.
