Dear Prince Georgians:
As graduation season comes to an end, we want to take this opportunity to congratulate the graduates of the Class of 2023! Making it to graduation day is such an incredible achievement that takes a great deal of hard work, commitment, and dedication, and we are extremely proud of those who have worked so hard to get to this point.
This is an exciting time in your lives, one where you celebrate all that you have accomplished while looking forward to what’s to come. While you reflect on your journey thus far, we encourage you to also take a moment to prepare for the next chapter in your lives. Whether you are going off to college or embarking on a new career, it is our hope that you continue to work hard to achieve your goals and do great things.
We also want to acknowledge all of the supportive parents, families, and friends who have been there for these students, standing with them through all of their achievements and triumphs, and even their challenges. We recognize the significant role that you play, dedicating yourselves to ensuring their academic success, and we thank you for your commitment and support to our students.
We know that our graduates are prepared to boldly face the world ahead and have been instilled with the courage needed to make a positive impact on our world. Each of them will make an indelible mark on our society, and we look forward to all the great things to come in the future. Again, congratulations to the Class of 2023 and good luck on all of your future endeavors.

1st Annual Pride Walk
County Executive Alsobrooks had a wonderful time at the Prince George’s County Police Department’s 1st Annual Pride Walk on Sunday, June 4. We want to thank our Police Department for organizing this amazing event as well as all of our community partners and residents who joined us.

PGCPS Mural Unveiling
We are proud to unveil a new community mural at Cooper Lane Elementary School! This beautiful mural was painted by Shawn James, Founder of Mural Masters, Inc. We want to thank Mr. James for his work as well as the MD-DE-DC Beverage Association for sponsoring this effort. We are excited to have this new mural that helps to beautify the neighborhood and shows the diversity of our community.
Pilot Sandbag Program
We recently launched our new Pilot Sandbag Program, which will provide sandbags ahead of the seasonal rains in Maryland. Residents in unincorporated areas of the County can pick up sandbags on a one-time, first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, June 10, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the following locations:

Holiday Waste Collection Schedule
County Government offices, with the exception of public safety agencies, will be closed on Monday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Curbside collections of yard trim, food scraps, trash, and recycling will remain on a regular schedule for residents receiving County provided services. There are NO changes due to the holiday. For more information on waste collection services, visit the Department of the Environment website here.
Solar Panel Co-op Opportunity for County Residents
Capital Area Solar Switch is making it easier for all County residents to go solar. By joining the co-op, you will be part of a group buying program that makes solar more affordable and simplifies the process. Once you register, you become part of a community looking to go solar so you can ask questions. You will receive a personalized solar recommendation at a discounted price! No need to go to three solar installers - this process helps you do it all!
Participation is free, and there is no obligation to accept your recommendation. The program is open until August 30, 2023, but the sooner you sign up, the faster you can switch to solar! To learn more, visit the Capital Area Solar Switch website here.
Save the Date: Pet Adoption and Community Event
Be sure to mark your calendar for a special Adoption and Community Event on Saturday, June 24, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Department of the Environment’s Animal Services Facility & Adoption Center in Upper Marlboro. Let’s Break It Down
Curbside composting is easy. Just place your food scraps and yard trim in your new wheeled green cart for Monday pickup by 6:00 AM. Learn more on the Department of the Environment’s website here.
Curbside Bulky Trash Services
Before placing your mattress and box spring at the curb for bulky trash collection, remember it must be in a protective plastic covering/encasement. Learn more bulky trash collection tips on the Department of the Environment’s website here.
Residents with County provided trash and recycling services can place up to two standard bulky items at the curb, next to your trash cart, for collection on your regular trash day. Appointments for white goods/appliances and scrap tires are still required via PGC311.
Recycle Acceptable Materials
Recycling in Prince George’s County is easy with our single-stream recycling collection. It is within our hands to "Recycle Right" for a more beautiful, prosperous, and sustainable County. Do your part! Learn more on the Department of the Environment’s website here.

Summer Expo 2023
Prince George’s County Health Connect, the County’s official health insurance program, will host its Summer Expo 2023 on Saturday, June 10, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Kentland Community Center. This free, large-scaled event will feature a resource fair that will offer health insurance information, resources for day-to-day living, and fun-filled activities for the entire family including food, entertainment, and door prizes.
This event is a collaboration between the Department of Social Services and Kentland Community Center and will focus on health insurance access. PGC Health Connect bilingual navigators will be on hand to answer questions and guide individuals through enrollment.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Join the Advisory Committee on Aging and the Department of Family Services on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on Thursday, June 15, for a virtual screening of “Last Will Embezzlement,” a documentary about financial exploitations of the elderly. The virtual documentary will be held virtually on Zoom and in-person at the Harriet Hunter Center in Camp Springs. Lunch will be provided for those individuals who register to view the film in-person. Register for the event here. Aging Unbound Information Fair
In recognition of Older Americans Month, the Department of Family Services’ Aging and Disabilities Services Division hosted the Aging Unbound Information Fair on Tuesday, May 16, on the grounds of the Harriet Hunter Center in Camp Springs. Over 250 participants were able to explore the many ways older adults can remain in and be involved with their communities. Participants had the opportunity to engage with County Government agencies and non-profit businesses to get information about programs and services for older adults while enjoying music, a free lunch, and beautiful weather. County Health Department Participates in Main Street Caribbean Festival
The County Health Department participated in the Main Street Caribbean Festival, the largest Caribbean event in the area. This free, family-friendly event occurred on Saturday, June 3, at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. This event was filled with great music, delicious food, and essential health resources. As a wonderful addition to the tasty food, dancing, boat rides, and hula hoop competition, the County Health Department provided insight into the latest health trends and resources to benefit County residents, distributed brochures and recipes on nutrition, and encouraged positive health habits.
The County Health Department looks forward to more summer events and more resources to improve our health in Prince George's County!
Prince George’s County Fleet Ranked #3 Among Nation’s Top Public Fleets
The Office of Central Services (OCS) proudly announces the selection of Prince George’s County’s Fleet Program as an awardee for the 2023 100 Best Public Fleets. Each year, government-operated fleets are evaluated and selected for their high performance and management operations. This year, the County’s Fleet Program advanced and is now ranked #3 among the nation’s top fleets. Please join us in congratulating OCS and the County’s Fleet Program!

National Association of Counties Spotlights Project HIRE
We are Prince George’s Proud that our Project HIRE program was featured by the National Association of Counties! This program provides apprenticeships in County Government for individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them learn new skills and gain full-time employment.
