Prince George's Proud:
An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks
Dear Prince Georgians:
Last Friday, we held a Welcome Home Celebration for Prince George’s County native Frances Tiafoe. Frances recently had a historic run at the US Open, becoming the first American man to make it to the semifinals since 2006, and the first Black American man to make it to the semifinals since Arthur Ashe in 1972. We were proud to declare September 16, 2022, as Frances Tiafoe Day in Prince George’s County as part of the celebration.
Frances is such a great example of the greatness that grows in Prince George’s. What’s so impressive about him is not just his hard work to become the #19 ranked tennis player in the world, but his character that is apparent both on and off the court. I’ve said many times before that there is absolutely nobody like a Prince Georgian, and that is so true about Frances, who truly represents the best of our County.
We are so Prince George’s Proud of Frances, and we want Prince Georgians to continue cheering him on in his future matches and tournaments. We know the best is yet to come for him. If you missed the celebration event, you can view the entire program on our Facebook page here. Photos from the event are also available here.
In addition, I wanted to let you know that today, September 22, is American Business Women’s Day. This day has been recognized since 1983 to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of businesswomen across the nation. I am proud to issue an official proclamation declaring September 22, 2022, as American Business Women’s Day in Prince George’s County.
This day is celebrated annually in recognition of the day the American Business Women’s Association was founded. The mission of the American Business Women’s Association is to bring together business women of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition. You can learn more about the Association, and find information on local chapters, here.
Please remember to celebrate and support our women-owned businesses in the County not just today, but throughout the year.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks
Prince George’s County Executive

Common Code Violation: Open Storage
An old sofa litters the back yard of a Clinton property. Old mattresses are stacked with trash bags behind a house in Hyattsville. Construction materials and cans half-filled with paint are dumped on the side of a house in Oxon Hill. All three cases are categorized as “open storage,” a violation of Prince George’s County Code.
According to the code section addressing open storage, properties must be maintained “in a clean, safe and sanitary condition.” Items such as “household appliances, motor vehicle parts, building materials, furniture, weeds, dead trees, garbage, rubbish, or similar items or materials, or residue therefrom” are prohibited. Under County Code, storing such materials may result in an administrative citation with a fine of $300.
Commercial property owners must be vigilant about keeping their properties free of open storage, as well. DPIE suggests that owners and managers consider posting “No Trespassing” and “No Dumping” signs, install security cameras to capture the exterior of the property thoroughly, and ensure their properties have adequate lighting. They should also ensure their lots are checked regularly and have a process in place to address any open storage quickly after it is discovered.
For more information about maintaining your property in compliance with County Code, visit the Single Family and Multifamily Enforcement page of the DPIE website.
