The front view of Cake Batter & Co., recently opened at 3902 Town Center Boulevard in Bowie, displays the companie's slogan: "Life is too short to skip cake!"
The BDS Team recently helped County business owner Alexis Streets expand her dessert bakery business by assisting her with the permitting process. Cake Batter & Co., Bowie’s newest eatery, opened recently in the Bowie Town Center at 3902 Town Center Boulevard. Cake Batter & Co., Streets's third business in the County, is a gourmet dessert bar serving cupcakes, wedding cakes, Bundt cakes, cookies and a variety of other sweet treats. She also owns Basket Treats by Alexis Streets, located at 349 Main Street in Laurel and Dessert Junkie, located in Free State Mall at 15480 Annapolis Road, Suite 204 in Bowie.

Streets said she and her team of "dessert artists" take an avant-garde art approach to desserts. "We are so excited to bring another dessert shop to the County. I look forward to continuing to serve delightful sweet treats to the community," Streets said.

Due to zoning regulations, many businesses are disallowed in residential areas in Prince George’s County. Nail salons are not allowed. However, hair salons and barber shops are allowed with certain zoning restrictions, such as square footage. Signage and hours of operation may also be limited. To ensure a particular home-based use is allowed under zoning regulations, request a zoning determination letter from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) by submitting an information request form.
After you have determined that the use is allowed, you will need to apply for a Use and Occupancy Permit (U&O). Home-based establishments can give entrepreneurs a convenient and economical way to operate a business. However, they are strictly regulated by County Code. Be sure to check with the County prior to opening your home business.
