On Saturday August 27, 2022, The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) joined County Executive Angela Alsobrooks’ Back to School Summer Passport Closing Event. We are Prince George's Proud to have been able to give away 550 backpacks to our fellow Prince Georgians. The event provided residents with free haircuts, food, school supplies and giveaways. DPW&T appreciates and would like to thank everyone who contributed to make this a successful drive, as we helped to prepare our youngest and brightest to start their school year off strong.
Thank you to our various partners who helped make the Stuff TheBus Back to School Supply Drive a success!

We had a great turnout for the Vision Zero Back to School Traffic Garden Event, that took place behind the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center. In preparation of our students heading back to school, we were able to inform them on traffic safety measures and ways to "Be Seen, Be Alert, and Be Safe" while walking and biking.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded $25 million in grants, with an additional $6.25 million local match, to fund the “Proud to Charge” Zero Emissions and Sustainable Transportation Program in Prince George’s County. This award will bring necessary change to our communities and greatly impact our transportation services to a more sustainable future. We are Prince George's to share this exciting news with NBC4 as well as other media outlets. DPW&T’s ongoing implementation of the “Proud to Charge” program will accelerate advancement of our initiative to reach, if not exceed, the goal of a 70% electric bus fleet by 2035.

Family Field Day and Wellness Expo
DPW&T was excited to participate in the Office of Human Resources Management’s Family Field Day and Wellness Expo on August 6. The event drew approximately 800 attendees and was a great opportunity to connect with County employees and their families to remind them of commuter benefits and programs through the RideSmart program, and to share the countywide Vision Zero strategy information, projects, and progress.
DPW&T Receives CEAM Large and Medium Project of the Year Award
Large Project
DPW&T is proud to announce that the Ager Road Green-Complete Streets Project has been awarded as the winner of the CEAM Large Project of the Year for 2022. With a total project length of 1.57 miles, the scope includes substantial roadway work, including a road diet to reduce speeding, along with upgraded traffic signals and intelligent transportation system (ITS) devices.

Medium Project
DPW&T was also awarded the CEAM Medium Project of the Year award for 34th Street Bridge in the City of Mount Rainer. The bridge is over the Arundel Canal between Arundel Road and Buchanan Street. This project was established as a part of Allison Street Flood Control Project to address the bridge and street's flood protection. The medium project replaced the existing bridge with a two-span concrete rigid frame with a span of about 31 feet. The completed repairs provide a 46’-2” clear roadway width, comprised of 2 -11’ lanes, 2 -7’-0” shoulders and 2-5’-1” sidewalks. The new bridge structure has a single span 45’- 2” long. Congratulations OEPM team and project partners!
