Prince George's Proud:

An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks

Dear Prince Georgians:

The 2022 Maryland Gubernatorial Primary Election is quickly approaching! The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, July 19, with early voting from Thursday, July 7 through Thursday, July 14. As we get closer to the election, we will be sharing important information to keep Prince Georgians informed of the many changes surrounding this year’s election as a result of the redistricting changes.

There are important steps that eligible voters should take to prepare for the election. We encourage all eligible Prince Georgians to register to vote and/or check the status of your registration if you have not done so already. The deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation is Tuesday, June 28. Remember that only registered Democrat and Republican voters are eligible to vote in the primary election unless there is a nonpartisan ballot for that district. You can register by mail or online on the Board of Elections website here.

We recognize that many Prince Georgians will be traveling this summer with their family and friends and that is why we are strongly encouraging residents to vote by mail. The deadline to apply for a vote by mail ballot is Tuesday, July 12, but we encourage you to apply for your ballot today. Registered voters can text VBM to 77788 to complete a vote by mail application or call 301-341-7300. Vote by mail applications can also be submitted to the Board of Elections via mail, fax, or email.

Once you receive your ballot, fill it out and make sure your oath is signed on the return envelope to ensure your ballot is counted. Completed ballots can be dropped in one of the drop boxes now available throughout the County. For more information on the Primary Election or for a list of drop box locations, contact the Board of Elections at 301-341-7300 or visit their website here.

We would also like to share that last week, the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in partnership with the Greater Prince George’s Business Roundtable and the Office of the County Executive, hosted the 2022 State of the Economy Address and Breakfast. We were excited to have this opportunity for us to share the amazing progress that we are making to build our economy and our vision for economic development for the next 18 months. Prince Georgians can view the 2022 State of the Economy address here.

Yours in service,

Angela Alsobrooks

COVID-19 Updates

Maximize Your COVID-19 Protection

Maximize COVID Protection

The County Health Department reminds residents that COVID-19 booster doses are a critical tool to staying healthier if you get infected with the virus. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data shows that during the Omicron surge, vaccine effectiveness against hospitalization was 91% during the first two months after a booster shot and remained high, at 78%, four or more months after a booster shot.

Most residents ages 5 to 49 years are recommended to get one booster dose at least five months after completing the primary vaccination series of Pfizer or Moderna. Residents ages 50 and older, or residents ages 12 and older who have weakened immune systems, are recommended to get a second booster dose at least four months after the first booster shot of Pfizer or Moderna. For additional booster dose information and to find nearby clinics, visit the County Health Department website here.
