2022 Maryland Gubernatorial Primary Election

Dear Prince Georgians,

We wanted to share some important information regarding the upcoming 2022 Maryland Gubernatorial Primary Election. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, July 19, with early voting from Thursday, July 7 through Thursday, July 14.

As the election approaches, we are encouraging all Prince Georgians to register to vote and/or check the status of your registration. The deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation is Tuesday, June 28. Remember that only registered Democrat and Republican voters are eligible to vote in the primary election unless there is a nonpartisan ballot for that district. You can register by mail or online on the Board of Elections website.

While residents have the option to vote in person, we are strongly encouraging residents to vote by mail. All eligible voters in Prince George’s County were mailed a vote by mail ballot application. To vote by mail, please complete the application and mail it back in the postage pre-paid envelope. Applications can also be submitted to the Board of Elections via fax or email. In addition, residents can also text VBM to 77788 to register to vote or complete a vote by mail application. The deadline to apply for a vote by mail ballot is Tuesday, July 12, and the deadline to apply for an electronic vote by mail ballot is Friday, July 15. Ballots will be mailed to voters beginning in mid-June.

It is also important to note that political district boundaries are changing this year. County, State, and Congressional districts are adjusted every ten years based on population changes. Our Board of Elections is working to finalize the new district plans and will share that information once it is made available.

For more information on the primary election, how to register to vote, and the vote by mail process, contact the Board of Elections at 301-341-7300 or visit their website here.

Yours in service,

Angela Alsobrooks
Prince George’s County Executive
