Prince George's County Celebrates “National Bike Week and Bike to Work Day”

LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is Prince George’s Proud to celebrate National Bike Week, May 16-22, 2022, and Bike to Work Day, May 20, 2022. Participants will receive important bike safety, mobility, and resource information during this event.

This year marks the 21st Anniversary of “Bike to Work Day” in the National Capital Region. As part of the celebration, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) are coordinating approximately 100 “Bike to Work Day” events across the region including 10 pit stops in Prince George’s County. Vison Zero Prince George’s is a proud Bronze Supporter of Bike to Work Day.

The Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center will be 1 of 10 pit stops co-hosted by DPW&T, M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County and the Prince George’s Countywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Community Advisory Group. This particular pit stop will be held at 431 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD. The site is adjacent to the Perrywood Elementary School and the paved Watkins Park Trail. Additionally, the site is easily accessible to/from existing bike lanes along Watkins Park Drive. The Pit Stop will operate from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

As we celebrate this day, we are reminded that bicycling is an affordable and sustainable alternate form of transportation. Safety is a shared responsibility, and we encourage cyclists to be seen, be alert and be safe while cycling, and implore motorists share the road with all roadway users. Please visit  PGC Be Seen. Be Alert. Be Safe campaign for more safety tips.

Whether commuting to the office or working from home, residents, employees and visitors can participate and register for “Bike to Work Day” at https://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/. Registration is open until Friday, May 20, 2022. On-the-spot registration will also be available.
