Prince George’s County Lifts Mask Mandate on Public Transportation

LARGO, MD – Effective immediately, Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) will provide its customers and operators the option to wear face masks on TheBus, PGC Link and Call-A-Bus. Masks will also be optional in transit facilities. The County’s decision is made to provide passengers and operators with consistency with WMATA (Metro) and other regional transportation systems mask policies.

Prince George’s County health officials continue to strongly recommend masking, particularly for those riders who are unvaccinated, immunocompromised or have chronic diseases that put them at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19. We will continue to monitor infection rates and make decisions based on the circumstances.

We encourage our customers to make decisions that are in their best interests. “If you are still hesitant about removing your mask, I want you to know that we support and respect your decision,” said County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “Prince Georgians have done a great job protecting each other for two years wearing masks, getting tested, and getting vaccinated. While the fight is not over, data shows that we can safely start this new phase of the pandemic.”

Updates will be provided as new information becomes available. Customers are encouraged to sign up for text or email messages through PGC Connect (https://map.pgcwifi.com or get the free app for Android and iOS) and to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @PGCountyDPWT.
