When you're thinking about adding a furry family member to your pack, consider adoption first.

No matter what breed, size, or age you'd like, you can find a pet in need of adoption. Not only are adoption costs lower than purchasing a "designer" animal or specific breed, but when they're adopted from our shelter, they are up-to-date on their vaccinations, already spayed/neutered, and microchipped. You might even get lucky and get a dog that's already house trained!

GS 2021 Day 2 Pet Adoption 10 AM
  1. To view adoptable cats, dogs and other animals from our facility visit:
  2. Call (301)-780-7201 with the animal ID number to check availability and schedule an appointment for an interaction (up to 2 animals).
  3. After scheduling an appointment complete the Adoption Application for Dogs & Cats or Adoption Application for Exotic Animals, then print and bring your application to your scheduled appointment at our facility. Please DO NOT FAX OR EMAIL applications.

About the Process

You must be 18 years or older to adopt. We take up to three applications per pet on a first-come, first-served basis. If you miss your scheduled appointment, the next application will be processed, and your name will be removed as an applicant. We only allow two people in an interaction room. You must be 18 years or older to adopt. Animals are placed as household pets only. Per Prince George's County law, all animals adopted out must be spayed/neutered before going home.

Scoop That Poop

Dog waste is more than a nightmare for our shoes. Just like human sewage, untreated pet fecal matter is harmful to waterways. Rain washes dog waste and the associated disease-causing organisms, such as giardia and salmonella, into rivers, beaches, and the Chesapeake Bay via storm drains.
