Please Join Us for a Crime Summit
Dear Prince Georgians,
I’m reaching out to let you know that I will be holding a Crime Summit with our Police Chief, Malik Aziz, on Thursday, April 14, at 6:30 PM at Creative Suitland (4719 Silver Hill Rd, Suitland, MD 20746). The goal of this summit is to have a conversation with our residents about the rise in crime that is taking place in our County. We want to hear your concerns and get your feedback, as well as provide an update on some of our recent crime prevention strategies. We will be joined by Reverend Tony Lee of Community of Hope AME Church, as well as several community partners.
As you know, we are seeing a rise in violent crime in Prince George’s and jurisdictions across the country, especially among young people. We know that we all want to reverse this troubling trend, and we want to assure Prince Georgians that we are taking every possible step forward to solve this issue, protect our residents, and protect our community.
Throughout the last several months, we have been working tirelessly to address this issue of violence in our communities. We launched the Hope in Action Anti-Violence Project, which included the recent establishment of the Hope Collective and the Violence Prevention Task Force. This project, spearheaded by the Prince George’s County Office of Community Relations and Community of Hope AME Church, works to strengthen sustainable peace efforts in our County by helping to reduce violent crime through collaboration with local law enforcement and community stakeholders.
We recognize the importance of hearing from our residents on this critical issue, which is why we encourage Prince Georgians to please join us for this important discussion. We have limited seating, so registration is required in advance. Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis. You can register to attend here.
Addressing the issue of violent crime is a community effort, and the County Government cannot do this work alone. We must continue to work together to overcome challenges such as this. Prince Georgians are strong and resilient, and I know that we can overcome any challenge if we work together.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks Prince George’s County Executive
