Vision Zero "Focus on the Road" Traffic Safety Video Contest
We are now accepting submissions for the Vision Zero "Focus on the Road" Traffic Safety Video Contest. Middle and high school students enrolled in Prince George's County Public Schools are invited to create a 30-second video to encourage people to put away distractions when driving, cycling and walking. Contest rules and additional details can be found on our website.
The deadline to enter is April 24, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Vision Zero Presentation at the PGCPS Prince George's Regional Association of Student Governments
We were proud to share Vision Zero projects and initiatives with over 150 students at the virtual PGRASG General Assembly on March 23. Topics included engineering highlights, driver safety tips, and a mini focus group on impaired and distracted driving. We were joined by representatives from the Prince George's County Health Department and the Maryland Highway Safety Office.

Bowie Baysox Free Family FunFest, Prince George's Stadium
We had a fun-filled day at the Bowie Baysox Free Family FunFest on March 26, sharing Vision Zero Prince George's and RideSmart giveaways and information. We also held our signature Double Dutch Bus Race!

Perrywood Elementary Hello Spring Go Green Bike Ride, Largo
The Perrywood Elementary School PTA and Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County hosted a community bike ride on March 26 at the Perrywood Elementary School. DPW&T distributed Vision Zero Prince George’s giveaways along with bike, pedestrian, and traffic safety information.

Lead Pedestrian Interval (LPI) - Pedestrian Signal Phasing
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is installing Lead Pedestrian Intervals (LPI) at US 1 at Edgewood Road in late Spring 2022. LPIs allow pedestrians to enter the crosswalk 3-7 seconds before vehicles receive the green indication.

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Transportation Planning Board (TPB) is providing technical assistance to the following Vision Zero Prince George's Roadway Safety Audits:

On March 23, the workgroup held a Roadway Safety Forum to gain feedback from the public on their experiences walking, cycling, and driving on MD 650. This study is a partnership between Montgomery County and Prince George’s County.

One Text or Call Could Wreck It All, Oxon Hill
The Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) is bringing attention to distracted driving with the "One Text or Call Could Wreck It All" event on April 2. Join PGPD to take a pledge between friends and family to refrain from using electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle.

We are partnering with Street Smart to host the Shattered Lives Testimonial Wall at the MVA in Beltsville in April.

Growing Green with Pride, Prince George's County
Register today for our Countywide community cleanup event, Growing Green with Pride. Roadside beautification can increase driver alertness, provide windbreaks, and reduce headlight glare. We thank the DPW&T crews who keep our community beautiful and safe.

Bike rodeos and pop-up traffic garden events teach people of all ages how to walk and bike safely and how to follow the rules of the road. To host a bike rodeo, please complete our Bike Rodeo Request Form.
