Prince George’s County Prepares for Winter Storm with Pretreatment of Roadways throughout the County

Largo, MD – Prince George’s County’s Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) will mobilize for another winter storm that is expected to impact the region on Sunday, January 16th, continuing into the Martin Luther King Holiday.  AccuWeather predicts snow will arrive around 1 p.m. and is expected to end after 1 p.m. on Monday.  DPW&T staff and crews will run a safe Full Operation initially, adjusting operations as deemed necessary.

To ensure the safety of our men and women, DPW&T will continue to utilize the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) COVID-19 best practices during this event, practicing social distancing and using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).  Staff and crews will communicate via virtual platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft teams.

“DPW&T crews have already started the pretreatment of the primary and major collector roadways throughout the County.  We would like to remind residents to stay off the roads during inclement weather if possible, and to not abandon their vehicles,” said Acting Director, Martin L. Harris.

Residents are also reminded to encourage their neighbors to park on the same side of the street to ensure accessibility for the snowplows.  During winter events routes are prioritized for service by the following categories: primary, secondary, and residential.  Primary and secondary roads are serviced first to ensure that public safety and emergency vehicles can travel.  Also, please wait 48 hours after snowfall has ended before reporting concerns regarding untreated roadways to 3-1-1.
