Prince George's County COVID-19
Vaccination Update
Dear Prince Georgians:
- We are Prince George’s Proud to share that Prince George’s County’s COVID-19 case rate has been declining the past few weeks. According to the CDC, the County is approaching the “moderate” stage of community transmission. Our case rate is one of the lowest in the region, at 56.09 cases weekly per 100,000 residents as of October 29.
- We want to thank Prince Georgians for their vigilance and care throughout this pandemic, and for stepping up to get vaccinated against COVID-19. We are closely monitoring our COVID-19 metrics, and if numbers continue to decline and our case rate remains under 50 cases weekly per 100,000 residents for seven consecutive days, we will revise the indoor mask mandate. As a reminder, our indoor mask mandate currently remains in effect for all individuals ages 2 years and older, regardless of vaccination status.
- Based on updated CDC guidance, Prince George’s County is now offering Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster shots, in addition to the previously authorized Pfizer booster shots. Residents in the following groups who received a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for a booster shot six months or more after completing their initial series:
- Individuals 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for a booster shot if they were vaccinated two or more months ago. Visit mypgc.us/COVIDVaccine for more information.
- The County Health Department will begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 to 11 years when the FDA, CDC and State of Maryland grant official authorization to do so. Free COVID-19 vaccines will be available to this age group at Health Department COVID-19 vaccination clinics, pediatricians’ offices, retail and grocery store pharmacies, urgent care facilities, and other health care providers in the County.
- The County Health Department encourages residents to celebrate Halloween safely by adhering to the County’s public indoor mask mandate for individuals ages 2 years and older, and by practicing COVID-19-related health and safety measures to limit the risk of spread including:
- If you choose to trick-or-treat door-to-door, only do so with members of your household or a small group of close friends.
- Consider Halloween-themed cloth face coverings instead of costume masks. Costume masks have mouth and nose holes and when worn alone do not provide the same protection as face coverings. Do not share masks, fangs, or similar items.
- Bring hand sanitizer when trick-or-treating.
- Candy should be given out using a scoop or tongs so the candy is not directly handled. Children should not reach into candy bowls or bags.
- Avoid indoor parties and party games like bobbing for apples or other activities that might involve sharing items that come into contact with other people’s mouths or noses.

- The County Health Department has provided over 175,000 vaccinations, including over 2,200 during the month of October.
- Our mobile units provided nearly 1,400 vaccinations in the community during the month of October, including through clinics held at local middle and high schools in collaboration with Prince George’s County Public Schools.
- During the month of October, the County Health Department has provided approximately 500 initial or single doses, 900 second doses, and 2,200 additional doses.
- During the last two weeks, we have continued to see an increase in vaccinations at County-led clinics due to additional doses provided, which includes third doses needed by immunocompromised residents to provide initial protection, as well as recently approved booster shots to increase immune response for those who received the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
 While the County Health Department now operates only one standing vaccination clinic in the County, in addition to nine mobile vaccination units, there are a number of vaccination sites available in Prince George’s County that are not operated by the County. Please remember that we do not manage nor control appointments or distribution for any sites besides those operated by our County Health Department.

Appointments: Individuals who live or work in Prince George’s County should visit mypgc.us/COVIDVaccine to view clinic hours or schedule an appointment directly. Individuals who cannot schedule an appointment online on their own should call 311 and press # for assistance.

Additional Non-County Operated Sites
- Please use our County Vaccine Locator to find additional vaccination sites operated by pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare partners.
- Over 1,077,400 vaccines have been provided to County residents. 565,457 County residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
- As of October 28, the CDC has reported nearly 85% of adults 18 and older have received at least one vaccination in the County, and 75.1% are fully vaccinated.
- When including all residents ages 12 and older, 84.7% of residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the CDC.
- Over 94% of seniors (ages 65 and older) in the County have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
