Popsicles on the Playground at the Vision Zero Prince George’s Traffic Garden was a great success! On Friday, September 17, 2021, our team met with students, faculty, parents and the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at Perrywood Elementary School to discuss bicycle and pedestrian safety and Vision Zero Prince George’s. The Vision Zero Prince George's Traffic Garden has been open since the spring, and the event introduced students to the installation who are just returning to the school for in-person learning.
"The parents were very appreciative of the very well presented event!", said Perrywood Elementary School Principal Carolyn Poole. The traffic garden is the first of its kind in Prince George's County and allows children to learn and practice the rules of the road in a safe and protected environment. The Vision Zero Prince George's Traffic Garden is open to the public in the evenings during non-school hours and on weekends. Don't forget your helmets.
Safety is a shared responsibility, and our team is sharing the Vision Zero Prince George's message through community outreach and education. We hope that you will join us at some upcoming events.

DPW&T personnel promoted RideSmart and Car Free Day by encouraging commuters to take the pledge to go car free or car lite at locations throughout the County.
Want to host a free in-person or virtual commuter event at your community or work site? Contact Stacey King, RideSmart Program Manager, at info.pgcridesmartsolutions@co.pg.md.us.
If you missed the Fall 2021 Community Partners' Meeting, you missed a lot...but don't worry, you can view the presentation here.
The quarterly meeting held virtually on Zoom was hosted by the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Participants received valuable information from the Office of Community Relations (OCR), DPIE, DPW&T and the Department of the Environment (DoE).
DPW&T presented information on Vision Zero Prince George's: making roads safe for everyone, the upcoming Growing Green with Pride Day event and introduced the new Office of Storm Drain Maintenance.
Snow and ice season is a few months away, but DPW&T begins preparation long before the first snowflake falls. Our annual Snow and Ice Dry Run will take place on Friday, October 22, 2021.
The exercise, which starts at 6:00 a.m., provides our staff the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming winter season by testing equipment, becoming familiar with procedures and expectations, performing inspections and traveling snow routes. Traveling routes snow plows will take during winter weather events now helps operators identify any deficiencies, road hazards or possible problems they may encounter during inclement conditions.
Visit our Snow and Ice Control page to find information on how you can begin to prepare for the winter season.
DPW&T is also hiring seasonal staff as we prepare for the winter months. A virtual information session will be held Thursday, September 29, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Those interested in attending should contact Human Resources at HRDPWT@co.pg.us.gov. To apply for open positions to support winter snow operations, visit the County's career page.
