Prince George's Proud:

An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks

Dear Prince Georgians:

Over the past 18 months, we all have been challenged with facing difficult times and overcoming the toughest obstacles. This pandemic forced us to navigate unprecedented territory and impacted our community in ways we have never seen. School systems across the nation had to close, and our children had to adjust to an entirely new world of learning. For more than a year, our school system has worked tirelessly to continue to provide a quality education to every student virtually and in a hybrid model. Now, we are entering a new chapter in our journey as we welcome our students back to the classroom for the 2021-2022 school year.

I want to take this opportunity to wish our students and teachers a successful academic year. I know that so many are excited to return to the classroom and to a sense of normalcy. Dr. Goldson and her staff have dedicated themselves to ensuring that everyone is welcomed back to a learning environment that is safe and productive for all students. I am so proud of the hard work and dedication of the entire Prince George’s County Public School system and I’m confident that our children are receiving an education that prepares them for the future.

As we welcome students back to the classroom, I want to remind parents that the COVID-19 vaccine is available for children ages 12 years and older. We must all continue to do our part to stop the spread of this virus and promote healthy environments for our children to learn and thrive. I encourage you to visit mypgc.us/COVIDVaccine to locate the nearest vaccination site and schedule an appointment.

As we start the new school year and transition into fall, we are also reminded of a tragic day in our nation’s history. It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since we endured the September 11 terrorist attacks that took the lives of thousands of men and women, including 19 Prince Georgians. The impact of these tragic events forever changed our nation and our world. As we commemorate the 20th anniversary of that tragic day, let us all take a moment to honor the memory of those that perished and all those who sacrificed their lives to save others.

Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks
Prince George’s County Executive

Tri-Area Civic Association Community Walk

Tri City OCR

The Office of Community Relation’s (OCR) 311 On the Go! team recently conducted a Community Walk in collaboration with the Tri-Area Civic Association in Landover. Residents of this community, which includes Highland Park, Booker T. Homes, and Highland Gardens, had the opportunity to engage with Police Chief Aziz and other County government representatives to express their concerns about their neighborhood. One of their main concerns was the flooding at all three of the parks in the community. The Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Public Works and Transportation, and Department of the Environment provided a solution to the flooding issue and the residents of this community were able to see their County government addressing their concerns right there on the spot.

If you are interested in a community walk in your neighborhood, please contact Jennifer Hawkins, 311 on the Go! Program Manager at 311onthego@co.pg.md.us.
