Prince George's Proud:

An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks

Dear Prince Georgians:

The Prince George’s County Government has been planning for the safe reopening of County Government buildings to the public for the past three months. Today, I want you to know that County Government buildings will reopen to the general public on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Most County Government agencies will resume normal operations, encouraging residents to make appointments while also accepting walk-ins. Some agencies will require residents to make an appointment to receive in-person services. I strongly encourage residents to review an agency’s website to verify if an appointment is needed prior to visiting, and for instructions on how appointments can be scheduled.

As a reminder, the current indoor public mask mandate applies to County Government buildings, meaning all employees and visitors must wear a mask regardless of your vaccination status.

This pandemic challenged us in many ways, and we have worked hard to successfully transition government services virtually to provide for residents while keeping everyone safe. However, we recognize that some residents do require in-person assistance, which is why we have decided to take this next step to safely reopen our buildings to the public. As we enter into this next phase, I want to thank each and every Prince George’s County Government employee for continuing to work hard to provide high-quality services to our residents throughout this pandemic.

This pandemic has also challenged our community in many ways, making it difficult for people across the County to pay rent. In March, our Department of Housing and Community Development relaunched the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), which offers relief for tenants who may be experiencing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This program helps cover rent, utilities, and other housing costs for those in need.

Our Department of Housing and Community Development has worked hard to build this program and ensure its success, including developing collaborative relationships with local organizations that provide legal aid services, local judges, as well as the Office of the Sheriff. Due to their efforts, I am Prince George’s Proud to share that we have spent $24 million of the funding that we have received so far, assisting more than 3,440 households.

We still have millions of dollars remaining to assist those in need and are continuing to accept applications from eligible households. We encourage landlords and tenants to work together and take advantage of this opportunity, so that our residents can remain in their homes. If you are in need of rental assistance and your income was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we encourage you to apply for our Emergency Rental Assistance Program as soon as possible by visiting hcd.mypgc.us.

Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks

Wear a Face Covering. It’s the Law!

Wear a Face Covering

The Health Department wants to remind residents that everyone over the age of five is required to wear face masks over their nose and mouth in all indoor public establishments in Prince George’s County, regardless of their vaccination status. Face coverings help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the more contagious Delta variant, which is still spreading at a high rate nationwide, especially among the unvaccinated.

COVID-19 Vaccine Third Doses

Vaccine 3rd Dose

As a reminder, the County Health Department is now offering third doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for individuals who have weakened immune systems at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex. Vaccinations are free and appointments are not necessary. Visit mypgc.us/COVIDVaccine for clinic schedules and information about other vaccine clinics across the County. Third doses for immunocompromised individuals are also available at local pharmacies, urgent care facilities, retail stores, and other health care providers.

Appointments Available for Back-to-School Immunizations

Be Wise, Immunize

The Health Department’s back-to-school immunizations clinics continue through the end of August and into September. Routine childhood immunizations are available from the Health Department at the Cheverly Health Center and at its four school-based wellness centers. The clinics are open to all County residents and will also offer COVID-19 vaccinations to eligible students and their eligible family members. For clinic schedules and to make an appointment, please visit health.mypgc.us/immunizations.

Maryland law requires students stay updated on their childhood immunizations schedule to attend school. Maryland’s back-to-school immunization requirements are available from the Maryland Department of Health’s Center for Immunization.

The Prince George’s County Police Department started the “Hoops with a Cop” program with its first pop-up basketball game at the Avenue Apartments in Forestville. Students participating in the County’s Explorer Program and several County police officers came together to enjoy an afternoon of fun. This is just one of the many ways our Police Department is working to strengthen community policing in Prince George’s County.
