DPW&T hosted over 125 cadets during the 2021 Clean County Cadet Program. This environmentally centric, 4-week program boasted a rich curriculum pertaining to beautification, litter control, and the Vision Zero initiative.
Our cadets participated in events such as: storm drain stenciling, an enriching presentation regarding the Right Tree Right Place Program, submission of roadway improvements using the DPW&T Reporter App, and more!
We are confident that our DPW&T cadets walked away with the knowledge and experiences needed to make positive change in their own communities!
Special thanks to our DPW&T Human Resources Division, as well as the following volunteers and partners for facilitating this awesome program:
Thank You! DPW&T would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who donated during our "Stuff TheBus" School Supply Drive. Your contributions will help to ensure students have the tools needed for a successful school year. This is just one more example of how Prince Georgians are continuing to support each other through a difficult period that has created financial hardship for so many. You all showed up to rally around our youth by donating supplies in record numbers and we are Prince George's Proud to report that we collected 17,854 supplies and stuffed 1,078 backpacks!
The donations were distributed at a giveaway held at Tanger Outlets in Oxon Hill this Saturday, August 28, 2021 as part of County Executive Angela Alsobrooks' Summer Passport Experience finale event.
Though we couldn't have done it without you all, we would like to acknowledge a few of the people who made this drive possible:
Did you know there are one billion vehicles worldwide? Join us for a day without them by going car free on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Instead of driving alone, take public transit, carpool/vanpool bike, scooter, walk, or telework.
This international event encourages greener methods of travel and brings awareness to the benefits of alternative travel options, while helping to reduce our carbon footprint. Commuter Connections hosts Car Free Day in our region and you are invited to participate. Take the free pledge by September 22 and find more information (including prizes you could win by taking the pledge) at www.carfreemetrodc.org/.
To help you go car free or car lite, Prince George’s County RideSmart Solutions is hosting a contest! Between September 1-24, 2021, create a new account through Commuter Connections or through the incenTrip or Carpool Now apps for your chance to win a Capital Bikeshare or RideSmart prize pack. That sounds like a win-win situation!
Want to host a Car Free Day or other commuter event at your worksite? Contact info.pgcridesmartsolutions@co.pg.md.us to get started!
On Friday, August 13, 2021, over 800 students from Prince George’s County and the surrounding area participated in the Washington Football Team’s Charitable Foundation’s Back-to-School Fair at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. DPW&T and Vision Zero Prince George’s staff, along with officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Automated Enforcement Division, participated and staffed tables at the event. DPW&T staff provided bicycle, pedestrian and traffic safety information; distributed Vision Zero Prince George’s pledge cards and reflective drawstring bags; and provided information on Ride Smart commuter options and transportation resources to students and parents in attendance. The team also reminded students to Be Seen, Be Alert and Be Safe while traveling to and from school and while walking and biking throughout Prince George’s County.
A special thanks to Vision Zero Prince George’s, DPW&T and the PGCPD: including but not limited to the Director’s Office, the Bicycle & Pedestrian Program, Office of Engineering and Project Management, Office of Transportation, Ride Smart, the Road Construction Division and the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Automated Enforcement Division. Thank you all for helping prepare students to return to school safely!

DPW&T would like to congratulate Director Terry L. Bellamy on his retirement! Mr. Bellamy has spent his career in public service and created a legacy of hard work and excellence. Though we will miss his leadership, wisdom, and candor, we wish him well in his next chapter as he looks to spend more time with his family and friends enjoying the fruits of his labor.
