Prince George's County COVID-19 Vaccination Update

Dear Prince Georgians:

  • I’m proud to announce that on July 4, 2021, Prince George’s County achieved a 70% vaccination rate among residents 18+, according to the CDC. This was a national goal set by the President. The County’s vaccination rates are well ahead of other jurisdictions throughout the country.
  • Beginning next week, PGCPS students ages 12+ may receive a free COVID-19 vaccine at mobile clinics at several high schools across the County. Clinics will be held from Tuesday, July 13 through Friday, July 30 on select dates, from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. To learn more, click here.
  • The new #VaxU Scholarship Promotion, announced by the Governor, will provide $1 million in college scholarships to Marylanders ages 12 to 17 who get vaccinated. Drawings will start July 12, and any Maryland resident that has been vaccinated or gets vaccinated in Maryland is eligible to win. For more information, click here.
  • The Six Flags Mass Vaccination Site will close operations after Saturday, July 10. This marks the end of the 5 month state-run mass vaccination operation. As a reminder, individuals who live or work in the County can still walk up to County Health Department vaccination clinics with no appointment needed, or book an appointment in advance online at mypgc.us/COVIDVaccine.

Yours in Service,

Angela Alsobrooks

Prince George’s County Vaccine Equity Team

  • Prince George’s County reached 70% vaccination rate among residents 18+, in part due to the vaccine canvassing program, part of County Executive Alsobrooks’ commitment to ensuring that COVID-19 vaccines are distributed equitably by targeting communities that are lagging in vaccination rates.
  • The County’s Vaccine Equity Team identified roughly a dozen communities that were a priority, based on socioeconomic need, existing vaccination rates, and population size.
  • In Phase II of the program, which ended June 30, canvassers knocked on 189,000 doors, made 1.2 million calls, and sent 509,000 texts. Combined with Phase I, canvassers have knocked on 284,000 doors since April 22, exceeding the program’s goal.
  • Notably, a recent survey showed that 71% of residents who had indicated during the first round of outreach that they were not vaccinated, had been vaccinated by the second round.
  • Canvassers also provided residents with information on government resources related to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as rental assistance, food assistance and employment assistance.
  • The completion of Phase II marks the end of door-to-door visits, but remote contact will continue. The County is encouraging residents to answer the phone if contacted by the vaccine outreach team.

Vaccine Supply & Administration

Vaccine Given
  • The County Health Department has provided over 161,000 vaccinations, including over 1,300 last week. We have provided approximately 700 vaccinations this week through July 8.
  • This week, 189 first doses and 566 second doses have been provided as of July 8.
  • To date, the County has received 197,879 vaccines, and has administered 159,620 of those doses (approximately 82.0%). This metric (percentage of vaccine administered) changes day to day as new vaccine shipments come in and the number of second dose vaccines waiting to be given are administered in the days ahead.
