Prince George's County Celebrates “National Bike to Work Day” with Upper Marlboro Pit Stop

LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T), the Department of Parks and Recreation of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and the Prince George’s Countywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Community Advisory Group will participate in “National Bike to Work Day” by hosting its Upper Marlboro Pit Stop on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center.  Participants will receive important bike safety, mobility and resource information during the event.

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of “National Bike to Work Day” in the National Capital Region. As part of the celebration, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) are coordinating approximately 100 “National Bike to Work Day” events across the region including 10 pit stops in Prince George’s County.

This year “National Bike to Work Day” will look very different from past events as we continue to battle the COVID-19 Pandemic. There are established COVID-19 safety protocols in place that include social distancing and the wearing of masks. The grab-n-go style event will have staggered arrival times for participants and there will be no hands-on demonstrations or speakers. For more on the precautions being taken during the event, visit https://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/covid-safety-policies.

The Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center pit stop is adjacent to Perrywood Elementary School and is accessible to/from existing bike lanes along Watkins Park Drive and by using the paved Watkins Park Trail. Whether commuting to the office or working from home, residents, employees and visitors can register for “National Bike to Work Day” at https://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/ or http://bit.ly/dcbtwd2021. Registration is open until Friday, May 21, 2021. On-the-spot registration will also be available. Those who register for the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center Pit Stop will receive a free “Bike to Work Day” t-shirt and a Vision Zero Prince George’s Grab and Go bag while supplies last!
