Prince George's Proud:
An Update From County Executive Alsobrooks
Dear Prince Georgians:
This month marks Women’s History Month and yesterday, March 8 marked International Women’s Day. We are Prince George’s Proud to use this month as an opportunity to celebrate the many contributions that women have made to our County and our nation.
The national theme for Women’s History Month this year is Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced. This theme is especially fitting as we celebrate the shattering of a major glass ceiling this year, with Vice President Kamala Harris making history as the first woman to serve as Vice President.
As we celebrate the many contributions of women to our society, I’m reminded of a quote from former First Lady Michelle Obama: “No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half of its citizens.”
That’s why I am proud we have so many women working and leading in Prince George’s County. It is also critically important that we recognize the women who have served as essential workers over the past year during an unprecedented pandemic, including in our County government. We sincerely thank you for working hard to keep our County running and keep us safe.
On Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 12:00 noon, we will honor a number of women serving the Prince George’s County community as we host our 36th Annual Women’s History Month Virtual Luncheon. Our team is working hard to prepare an amazing virtual program that will celebrate women who have made important contributions to our County and nation. We look forward to sharing additional details with you soon.
Finally, the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System has a number of resources and events to celebrate Women’s History Month. I encourage you to view these resources and attend several virtual events in the coming weeks here.
I hope that during the month of March, you will take some time to reflect on the many ways women have positively impacted our County, State and nation. In addition, let’s all make sure we thank the women who have made positive impacts on our lives and in our communities.
Yours in service,
Angela Alsobrooks

Office of Community Relations Launches COVID-19 Vaccine Pre-Registration Blitz
The Office of Community Relations pre-registered residents for the COVID-19 vaccine at a recent grocery distribution event.
The Office of Community Relations is working hard to ensure residents are pre-registered to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations, ultimately helping organize broader vaccine delivery into the community once the vaccine supply increases from the State and federal governments.
The Pre-Registration Strategic Blitz is a coordinated effort between the Office of Community Relations’ 311 on the Go! Division, the Health Department, the Office of Emergency Management, the Department of Family Services and the County Executive’s Office to ensure our seniors and most vulnerable populations receive the vaccine. Since February 16, we have hosted more than 8 Pre-Registration to Vaccination events in the northern, central and southern regions of the County. Through this collaborative effort that includes dedicated volunteers, over 840 seniors have been pre-registered at various venues throughout the County.
If you are interested in hosting a Pre-Registration to Vaccination event or would like to volunteer, please contact Office of Community Relations Project Manager Thomas Johnson by email at 311onthego@co.pg.md.us.

We put together a virtual video tribute to mark the occasion, and we partnered with the National Harbor to light the Capital Wheel with amber lights. If you missed our virtual video tribute, you can view it online here.
