Prince George's County COVID-19 Vaccination Update
Dear Prince Georgians:
On Wednesday, we received notification from the Maryland Department of Health informing us that due to the winter weather sweeping the nation, the 4,200 first doses of vaccine we were promised this week, would be delayed. Due to this delay, unfortunately the Health Department postponed all first dose vaccinations scheduled for today, February 19 until the vaccine arrives from the State. All second dose vaccination appointments are continuing as planned. If you had a first dose vaccination scheduled for any of these days, you will receive a new appointment for the week of February 28.
In addition, we unfortunately had to cancel our vaccination clinics on Thursday, February 18, due to the inclement weather. We are prioritizing rescheduling those with second dose appointments, and at this time, all those who had second dose appointments were rescheduled for clinics operating this weekend. Due to the lack of first dose vaccines previously mentioned, those who had first dose appointments that were cancelled will receive a new appointment for the week of February 28. We apologize for these inconveniences due to the winter weather.
- On Friday, February 12, we had 4,023 first doses.
- We held a clinic on Sunday, February 14, where we administered 516 first doses.
- On President’s Day, we administered 179 first doses.
- On Tuesday, February 16 we administered 1,316 first doses.
- We also gave 750 doses to hospital partners to hold weekend appointment-only clinics to vaccinate more of our seniors.
- On Wednesday, February 17, we administered 689 first doses (The Health Department has 573 remaining with 250 of those doses allocated to a vaccination partner).
- Since Friday, February 12, we have administered 2,700 first doses, and 1,899 second doses of vaccine.
We look forward to receiving this week’s allotment of vaccine as soon as possible so that we may continue giving first dose vaccines and reschedule the appointments that were postponed, but in the meantime, we will continue to give second dose vaccines to those who are scheduled to receive them, and we have sufficient second doses to continue uninterrupted.
I also want to take a moment to recap the latest update on COVID-19 vaccines in our County this week. On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, we added a fourth location to our County Health Department’s vaccine clinics. The new site, located at the Laurel Beltsville Senior Activity Center, will further increase our capacity to vaccinate Prince Georgians. In addition, on Saturday, February 13, I held a Tele-Town Hall to provide the latest updates on COVID-19 vaccinations in the County and answer questions. Finally, I want to remind everyone that, at this time, we are prioritizing scheduling appointments for individuals in Phases 1A and 1B who have not yet received appointments from our pre-registration list. Once we have scheduled those in 1A and 1B, then we will move to scheduling vaccination appointments for those who have pre-registered in Phase 1C. As long as you have pre-registered, I promise you will get an appointment.

 Currently, the vaccination capacity at our County Health Department’s four clinics is 1,900 people per day. However, the number of vaccinations provided is dependent on the supply we receive from the State. The winter weather this week has impacted our vaccine administration efforts, causing a delay in the shipment of first doses and forcing the cancellation of appointments at our clinics on Thursday, February 18 and Friday, February 19.
- On February 15, the County Health Department received 3,900 second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
- To date, the County has received 35,150 doses of vaccines, and has administered 27,341 of those doses (approximately 77.8%). This metric (percentage of vaccine administered) changes day to day as new vaccine shipments come in.
- Out of the vaccines we have not administered, only 573 are first doses, and 250 of those doses are allocated to a vaccination partner.
- The rest are set aside for second dose appointments.
- Between now and February 26, we have a total of 10,348 appointments scheduled.
 In order to receive a COVID-19 vaccine through the Prince George’s County Health Department, individuals who live or work in the County must fill out our pre-registration form.
- Over 131,000 pre-registrations have been received as of February 14 (nearly 118,000 are County residents).
- 63% of County residents who have pre-registered are eligible in Phase 1.
The numbers from this list will continue to fluctuate as more Prince Georgians pre-register for vaccinations, and as others receive appointments at our clinics and are removed from the list.

As additional residents pre-register, we will continue to prioritize scheduling appointments for those who are currently eligible under Phase 1A and 1B, and then we will move to Phase 1C.
As a reminder, the County Health Department is only scheduling appointments for individuals on the pre-registration list. Please note, pre-registering with the County Health Department puts you on the waiting list for an appointment at our Health Department’s clinics. The clinics operated by the State, local hospitals, or pharmacies in the County have separate registration processes.
COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion with Dr. Fauci
 On Monday, February 8, 2021, County Executive Alsobrooks hosted a COVID-19 vaccine discussion with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease scientist and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, to dispel rumors and misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines. Dr. Fauci was joined by County Health Officer Dr. Ernest Carter, and Prince George’s Forward Task Force Health Recovery Subcommittee Chair Dr. Joseph Wright.  While the County Health Department currently operates four vaccination clinics in the County, there are a number of vaccination sites available in Prince George’s County that are not operated by the County. Each site not operated by the County has its own vaccine appointment scheduling process to distribute vaccines received directly from the State. While this is not ideal, we encourage you to sign up at these other sites to increase your options to receive a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
Please remember that we do not manage nor control appointments, or distribution for any sites besides those operated by our County Health Department.

- Older adults in Phase 1 can call the Maryland Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccination Support Center at 1-855-MDGOVAX (1-855-634-6829) to schedule vaccine appointments at mass vaccination sites. The call center is open seven days a week from 7 AM to 10 PM. The Vaccination Support Center is specifically designed to assist older adults and residents without Internet access.

Vaccination Partnerships
 We have established the following partnerships with the State and other organizations to assist in the mass vaccination of Prince Georgians.

Luminis: Assisting with vaccinating staff at dialysis centers, and working with the Department of Family Services to provide vaccinations at senior living complexes.

University of Maryland Capital Region Health: Assisting with vaccinating healthcare providers in the County.

University of Maryland Medical System: Working to potentially open a vaccination site in College Park.

MedStar: Accepted seniors 75+ from County Health Department’s pre-registration list to fill appointment slots.

Giant Food: Working with the Department of Family Services to provide vaccinations at senior living complexes.

Safeway: The grocery store chain is offering their store locations for equitable distribution in the County.

Kaiser Permanente: Assisting with vaccinating PGCPS employees.

Maryland Department of Health (Six Flags): Some vaccination appointments will be set aside each week for eligible County residents from the County Health Department’s pre-registration list (residents can also still book appointments through the State site, as those appointments become available).
 Over 67,000 vaccines have been provided to 50,607 County residents, with 16,475 residents having received their second vaccination. There are an estimated 728,050 residents ages 16 and older, the minimum age for vaccination. Our goal is to have 473,232 residents vaccinated by this summer, or 65% of this population and 80% by this fall. We are at 10.7% of our summer goal. We anticipate revising our goal as new vaccines become available that include younger populations. You can stay updated on the County’s vaccination progress through our data dashboard.
