Join Dr. Goldson and I for a Telephone Town Hall This Evening
Dear Prince Georgians:
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) CEO Dr. Monica Goldson and I will host a telephone town hall event this evening to offer updates and answer questions about the proposed Alternative Construction Finance (ACF) plan for Drew-Freeman Middle School, Hyattsville Middle School, Kenmoor Middle School, Walker Mill Middle School, and new buildings in the Adelphi and southern areas of the County. The telephone town hall will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
PGCPS will contact parents directly. For those who do not receive a call, or for members of the community who would like to understand more about the ACF plan, please call 855-756-7520 and enter 67775# to dial in. We hope you will join us for this important telephone town hall this evening.
I wrote an op-ed that was published in the Washington Post this morning in support of the ACF plan. The County has an $8.5 billion backlog in school construction, with 40 percent of school buildings built 60 years ago. Our children deserve the opportunity to be educated in school buildings that are conducive to learning and reflect the importance we place on their education.
Prince George’s parents and our community have been waiting decades for new schools, and it’s time the County delivers. The ACF plan will help us build six new schools more quickly while providing a $235 million cost savings over the life of the agreement. I encourage you to read my op-ed that explains more about how this plan will positively benefit our students and community.
In addition, Prince George’s County continues to work hard to address food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. I want to provide this week’s distribution locations for prepared meals and groceries through our Stand Up & Deliver Program:

Finally, I want to quickly remind everyone that the deadline to request your mail-in ballot for the 2020 General Election is almost here. If you plan to vote by mail, the Board of Elections must receive your request for a ballot by tomorrow, October 20. If you have the paper application that was mailed to all voters, you can fill that out and drop it off directly at the County Board of Elections in Largo by 4:30 PM on October 20. You can also fill out an application in person at the Board of Elections.
You are also able to request your mail-in ballot online. Visit elections.maryland.gov to complete the application before 11:59 PM on October 20. You can also text VBM to 77788 to receive a link to complete the application on your phone by 11:59 PM on October 20.
For those that have already received their mail-in ballots, remember to place your ballot in the return envelope and sign the voter oath on the envelope after you have filled out your ballot. There are now 42 secure drop boxes across Prince George’s County where you can safely return your voted ballot. These drop boxes will be available until 8:00 PM on November 3, and they are monitored by security 24/7. To view a full list of drop box locations, please click here.
