Prince George’s County Celebrates Car Free Day 2020
Largo, MD – Today, September 22, 2020 is Car Free Day in Prince George’s County, Maryland and the Washington Metropolitan region. Residents are encouraged to participate in the annual event, organized by Commuter Connections, by forgoing the use of personal vehicles as they travel today.
Car Free Day is an international event that encourages people to travel by modes of transportation that are more environmentally friendly than driving. Prince George’s County residents can take part in this year’s celebration by teleworking from home, walking, riding a bicycle, or using other public transportation options.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebration will look a little different, but the goal to use more sustainable ways to travel in order to help reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion remains the same.
Bicycles have reemerged as a preferred method of transportation with drastic sell increases in purchases and repairs since the start of the pandemic. Bicycling is not only a great commuting alternative, but it also provides much needed physical activity. Bikeshare offers the opportunity for those who don’t own bicycles to enjoy a ride. Capital Bikeshare is dedicated to providing equitable accessibility through its Capital Bikeshare for All program.
Learn more about Car Free Day and take the Car Free Pledge to be automatically entered into a raffle for prizes.
