Hampton Park Redevelopment Project

HP refresh

Prince George’s County residents are giving high marks to the redevelopment of the Kingdom Square Shopping Center on Central Avenue at the I-495 on-ramp on land formerly known as the Hampton Mall. The $250 million, 25-acre mixed-use development, named Hampton Park, will include a hotel, office space, restaurants, retail establishments and apartments.

The Business Development Section (BDS) is coordinating with the owner, CapHeights Central LLC, of Clifton, N.J., and developers, Velocity Companies, of Greenbelt, along with various County agencies and other stakeholders in the redevelopment of the shopping center. Hampton Park is part of a public-private partnership. The County will house its Department of Health and Human Services and Veterans Affairs headquarters within the development.

For more information on Hampton Park, visit the Velocity Properties website at www.thevelocitycompanies.com/portfolio.

Business Development Section Helpful Hints

Online Applications —When applying in the e-permits system, always use the same email address on the documents you submit, preferably a generic company email address that can be accessed by several people. This will make sure that any messages are sent to a central contact point and that tasks and requests are responded to promptly to keep the application process moving seamlessly and ensures that you receive any DPIE updates.

Sign Permits — As soon as you know what you want to advertise for your new business, apply for the sign permits. This will allow enough time to have them approved before the public advertisement of your business. Visit www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/1564/Sign-Permit for details.

Pre-Construction Meetings — Make sure your plans have been approved and stamped prior to the meeting and remember to bring an additional copy.

Use and Occupancy — You must have a current Use and Occupancy Permit (U&O) issued by the County prior to moving into a new or an existing business, except if the business is in the City of Laurel, which issues its own permits. U&O permits must be issued to the exact address the occupant will occupy. For more information on how to obtain a U&O, visit www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/1497/Permits.

2020 Census

WHAT IS THE U.S. CENSUS?

By law, every 10 years the U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States. Your participation determines representation and how billions in federal funds are distributed. If our community is undercounted, friends and neighbors miss out on an estimated $18,250 per person over a 10-year period. Statewide, that’s a total of $26.6 billion over a 10-year period.
