MAN SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS AFTER GUILTY PLEA IN DOMESTIC-RELATED HOMICIDE
UPPER MARLBORO, MD – During a court hearing 26-year old Erwin Lorenzo Sanchez pled guilty to murder for stabbing his wife to death. State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy announced the plea and Sanchez’s 40 year sentence following today’s proceedings.
On January 1st, 2018 Sanchez and his wife had been at a party. At some point they began arguing. When they arrived home they continued arguing and Sanchez stabbed her. Police arrived and found the victim on the floor of the residence in Brentwood suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to police Sanchez admitted that he committed the crime as he was being taken into custody.
“While we are pleased with the sentence imposed today, we remain heartbroken for the family of Lisbet Mendez Garcia,” said State’s Attorney Braveboy. “This case is tragic. We urge victims of domestic violence to come forward so that we can seek justice for them. It is especially important as we continue to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month that we emphasize the fact that we will do everything in our power to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and hold their abusers accountable.”
