FORMER NANNY SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS, SUSPEND ALL BUT 15, FOR KILLING 8-MONTH-OLD BABY GIRL

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy announced today that Oluremi Adeleye has been sentenced to 40 years in prison with all but 15 years suspended in addition to 5 years supervised probation upon release. She was convicted in February of killing an 8-month-old baby girl.

 

The 73-year old former nanny was captured on a home video camera in October of 2016 unscrewing the lid of Enita Salubi’s bottle and pouring nearly eight ounces of milk down the child’s throat in less than 30 seconds, essentially drowning her. The video also showed the child going limp and Adeleye rocking her. She declined a trial by jury and opted to have her case tried before a judge. She was found guilty of second degree murder and first-degree and second-degree child abuse.

 

The child’s father, Influence Salubi, testified that he received a call from the nanny saying that something was wrong. He rushed home and found the child lifeless.

 

“This is a heartbreaking case. This family is still in mourning,” said State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy. “No one expects to leave their healthy baby home and return from work to find that child dead. We are pleased that the family had the foresight to have the video camera in place because that played a key role in getting justice for their baby.”
