Your ask: What is a solar co-op? Why join a solar co-op?
Maryland Solar United Neighbors, a collaborative non-profit solar advocacy group, organizes 50 to 100 community members together into a single group, or "co-op", and provides residents with unbiased support through each and every stage of the solar selection process.
Co-op participants leverage solar bulk-purchasing power to get discounted pricing and a quality installation. The experienced team, in addition to the Sustainable Energy Program's Energy Coach, ensures that solar interested residents, especially those applying for the TNI Clean Energy Rooftop Solar Grant, understand how it can be installed on your home, how solar works, and how it can be financed.
How Solar Co-ops Work
Co-op volunteers choose an installer on behalf of the entire group through an open and competitive bidding process. The selected installer provides everyone in the group with a personalized proposal for their consideration.

RESIDENTS CAN RECEIVE ASSISTANCE ON UTILITY BILLS.
More families can receive assistance on their heating bills through the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF). WAFF was established by Washington Gas and The Salvation Army more than 35 years ago, helping to pay for all types of fuel to heat the homes (via gas, electric, etc.) of people in financial need.
Basic eligibility include:
- Reside within the DMV (DC, Maryland, or Virginia);
- Meet income eligibility requirements;
- Have a disconnection notice or had service disconnected.
Washington Gas customers can take advantage of merger-funded WAFF assistance. |
