On Wednesday, August 8, 2018, DPW&T joined many agencies and organizations for NBC 4's Backyard Weather BBQ at the Woodlawn Community Center in Landover Hills, which is in the Woodlawn/West Lanham Hills Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative (TNi).

While community members learned valuable information about County Departments, local businesses and organizations, their kids received backpacks to help get ready for the upcoming school year.

Sponsored by NBC 4 and Telemundo, the community engagement event also offered a host of services and entertainment including haircuts, dental demonstrations, sports, a dunk tank, music, food, workshops, and more. Plus, NBC 4's Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer's weather reports were broadcasted live from the event.

DPW&T’s Office of Engineering & Project Management held a public information meeting, on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, about the future Stuart Lane Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project. Interested constituents came to Grace Brethren Christian School in Clinton to learn about the project, which is currently in the design phase.

The project spans from Woodyard Road (MD-223) to Regal Court along Stuart Lane. The main goals of the project are to increase safety for all of roadway users, enhance ADA accessibility, and provide continuous sidewalks throughout the length of the project.

Some of the proposed improvements include widening Stuart Lane from Woody Terrace to Regal Court; adding sidewalks and ADA ramps on the northbound side of Stuart Lane from Woody Terrace to Wade Avenue and on the southbound side from Woody Terrace to just north of Regal Court to link in to the existing sidewalk on each end; and striping for new pedestrian crosswalks at the Stuart Lane & Woody Terrace and Stuart Lane & Wade Avenue intersections.

The anticipated project schedule:

· Complete the Design — Mid 2020

· Advertise the Project — Late 2020

· Construction Starts — Early 2021

· Construction Completed — Late 2021
