TOMORROW:  Capital Bikeshare Comes to Prince George’s County
Service Creates New Mode of Transportation for the County

LARGO, MD – On Friday, June 1, 2018, Prince George’s County residents will bike, walk and ride to work in celebration of the launch of Capital Bikeshare, and the unveiling of bicycle racks at county buildings. On that day, the County’s Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) will also disseminate bike maps, bike safety and mobility information, and reflective walking and biking gear to the community. The day’s activities will feature several Prince George’s County agencies promoting healthy lifestyles, and will take place at the new Wayne K. Curry Administration Building, which will become a pit stop for future Bike to Work day activities. Bike convoys will travel from the Curry Building to the Capital Bikeshare location opening at the Largo Metro Station. DPW&T will also open several Capital Bikeshare stations along the Route 1 corridor.

“The launch of Capital Bikeshare in Prince George’s County will help to promote connectivity to and within communities, all while protecting the environment and improving people’s health,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III.  “We want to encourage residents to explore using bicycling and transit options to get to work.  Over the last seven years we have added more bike lanes and bike-friendly amenities throughout the County – including bikeshare options that have now come to communities in Prince George’s County.  Bike-friendly communities are becoming more desired to homebuyers and the business community, and I am committed to making sure Prince George’s County is on the right path for County bicyclists.”

“Three years ago, DPW&T installed bike racks on all of our transit buses.  We are pleased to take this major step to further encourage bicycle and transit connectivity with the launch of Capital Bikeshare. This exciting new option will provide bicyclists in Prince George’s County with additional opportunities to explore the region.” said Darrell B. Mobley, Director, DPW&T.
