Largo, MD - The Prince George's Economic Development Corporation is pleased to congratulation Petrie Richardson Ventures as it announced that it has signed a lease to bring Nordstrom Rack to the Woodmore Towne Center. This announcement represents the successful culmination of a multi-year effort by Petrie Richardson and County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III and his economic development team in bringing this high-end retail operation to Prince George's County. It is part of a concerted County strategy, building on aggressive efforts at the International Conference of Shopping Centers convention, to bring quality retail products to a community that has long felt underserved by this niche.
Nordstrom Rack will join the Woodmore Towne Center 245 acre mixed use development and Prince George's County's first Wegman's, Copper Canyon Grill, Costco and Best Buy. "County Executive Rushern Baker, and his entire administration, has been a great partner in pulling this off" stated Walt Petrie, Chairman of Petrie Richardson Ventures and owners of Woodmore Towne Center. "Mr. Baker has set a new standard in Prince George's County and his leadership has been instrumental in attracting the highly coveted Nordstrom brand to Woodmore Towne Centre".
In addition, this store will result in the hiring of 60 full time new employees, compensated with benefits. Expecting to break ground in early 2016 and open in the fall of 2016, the new Nordstrom Rack will be a 30,000 square foot retail store in Woodmore Town Center near Best Buy.
"Nordstrom Rack will be a wonderful addition to the retail options that are available at Woodmore Town Center," said Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. "Over the last five years, Woodmore Town Center has successfully attracted exciting retail options that also provide convenience for the residents and businesses in the area. Wegman's and Costco are strong anchors for the Town Center and together they help draw shoppers that have set the stage for popular restaurants like Copper Canyon and now retailers like Nordstrom Rack. Companies are quickly discovering that the Woodmore Town Center in Prince George's County is a prime location and I am confident that its newest addition, Nordstrom Rack, will prove to be one of the company's most successful stores."
In addition to County Executive Baker efforts, District 5 Council Member Andrea Harrison also worked to facilitate amicable community support with the City of Glen Arden. "I am extremely excited to welcome Nordstrom Rack to Woodmore Town Center," said Council Member Harrison. "Now, residents can find upscale, affordable retail options right in their own backyard."
"This is what economic development is all about in Prince George's County," said EDC President Jim Coleman. "We went to the ICSC Convention with the expectation of bringing back high end retail and, though the leadership of County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III and his economic development teams diligent efforts, we brought back Nordstrom Rack. These are the type of amenities that the residents of Prince George's County have demanded for many years. This is a great step in the right direction."
Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, Inc. which was founded in 1901 in Seattle, Washington. Since then, Nordstrom has expanded from a small Seattle shoe shop to a leading fashion specialty retailer with over 100 stores and an e-commerce business that continues to grow and evolve - now into Prince George's County.
The County Executive's team at the ICSC convention that was part of this success included Haitham Hijazi, head of DPIE, and Brad Frome and David Iannucci, senior economic development staff to Mr. Baker.
