Q. What should I wear for testing? 

A. That depends on which position you are testing for. 
If you are testing for a Public Safety Aide Position you should be dressed appropriately for a JOB INTERVIEW. 
If you are testing for a Police Officer Position you should show up in attire that is appropriate to complete the PHYSICAL AGILITY Test. (Interview will be on Sunday) 

Q. Are there any study materials for the written test? What does the written test consist of? 

A. There are no study materials, the written test consists of 4 sections, Writing, Math, Grammar, & Reading comprehension.  

Q. Will this seasonal job qualify for my college internship?

A. We cooperate fully with colleges and universities to help satisfy your internship requirements.

Q. What does the PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST consist of? 

A. The physical agility test has 3 events:

Event #1: 220 Yard Shuttle Run(Simulates the foot pursuit of an individual) The run is structured in four (4) legs of fifty-five (55) yards each for a total of two hundred twenty (220) yards.
The course must be completed in forty-seven (47) seconds or less.

Event #2: Obstacle Course 
(Simulates pursuing a fleeing suspect around various obstacles) The participant will: Run around seven (7) traffic cones Sprint to and traverse a set of stairs Sprint to and cross over a low hurdle Run across six (6) four (4) inch posts Sprint to and jump/climb over a four (4) foot barrier Run to the finish line while dodging five (5) traffic cones
The course must be completed in forty-two (42) seconds or less

Event #3: Body Drag
(Simulates the Emergency Rescue of an injured person) The participant will: Drag/lift/carry/pull a one hundred fifty (150) pound dummy a distance of forty (40) feet on a resistant surface. 
The task must be completed in twenty (20) seconds or less.

Q.  Do I need to make a reservation for when I want to test? 

A. You are not required to, but we would like you to. You may register for a test date by e-mailing pdtrain@oceancitymd.gov  Simply include your name, phone number, position applying for and date you wish to test. 

Q. What time is the test? 

A. The written test begins promptly at 8:00 AM, you should plan on arriving no later than 7:45 AM. WE DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE IN THE BUILDING AFTER 8:00 AM

Q. What should I bring with me to the test? 

A. All candidates must bring a completed application and Police Officer Candidates must also bring a completed Physician's Waiver. It is also recommended that you bring a bottle of water/sports drink and some type of Energy/Granola Bar for a snack. You can obtain the Application HERE  and You can obtain the Physician's Waiver HERE

Q. Can I choose which day I show up for the test, Saturday or Sunday. 

A. No. Saturday is the Written Test for ALL Positions and Physical Agility Test for Police Officer Candidates. Public Safety Aide Candidates who pass the written test will be interviewed on Saturday. Police Officer Candidates that pass the written test and physical agility test will be interviewed on Sunday. 

Q. Is there a cost to take the test? 

A. No. There is no cost to take the test.
