Fire Safety Inspector
The Ocean City Fire Department: Office of the Fire Marshal is responsible for the enforcement of fire/explosive laws and applicable work in fire inspection, plans review, code enforcement, fire origin/cause investigation, court testimony, and explosive device response for the Town of Ocean City.
The Fire Safety Inspector is the entry-level/trainee position in the Fire Marshal’s Office, and will be responsible for applicable work in code enforcement for the department, while obtaining the necessary education, training, and experience for required promotion to Deputy Fire Marshal I/II. Other duties commensurate with training, experience, and Departmental needs will be assigned. Several positions are expected to be hired to fill current/upcoming Deputy I and II vacancies over the next six months.
Schedule is predominantly day work (M-F); and is subject to regular evening/weekend assignments and rotating on-call status.
Candidate must possess excellent customer service skills, strong organizational and communication skills and a high level of proficiency in oral, written, and digital communications. Entry-level candidates must have a valid driver’s license, experience as a firefighter, and should be certified as a Fire Inspector 1. Combination of education and experience relevant to the position may be considered as alternatives to the minimum qualifications.
Must be capable of obtaining necessary certifications (Fire Inspector II, Fire Investigator, HazMat Tech) for promotion to DFM 1, within 12 months of employment, pending training availability and Departmental needs.
Base annual salary range for position and promotional opportunities are:
-Fire Safety Inspector: $39,194 to 62,360 (Entry Level)
-Deputy Fire Marshal I: $47,167 to 75,045
-Deputy Fire Marshal II: $51,741 to 82,323

-thorough background investigation (including polygraph/psychological evaluation)
